23.01.2022 2020 is almost over And what a year it has been! The pandemic caused so many emotions, little wonder we all feel like we’ve done a few rounds with Mike Tyson. There was fear, anger, bewilderment, sadness, melancholy but we also showed great resilience, kindness, persistence and innovation as so many of us had to think outside the square to reinvent our businesses and our lives in the ‘new normal’. Tough times create even tougher individuals, and now as we emerge from the... other side of COVID-19, we thank ourselves lucky to live in a country like Australia and send our thoughts and prayers to those overseas who are not as fortunate. In our final communication for 2020, we thought we'd give you a snapshot of what the Australian Hairdressing Council has been up to this year - and boy it's been a busy one! 22.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS! Victorian Stage 4 Lockdown - Business Restrictions Under Stage 4 ‘Stay at Home’ Restrictions, the default is that workplaces in metropolitan Melb...ourne are closed unless the workplace is part of a permitted industry. All Victorians are required to work from home, except where this is not practicable. Hairdressing businesses - CLOSED - from 11.59pm Wednesday 5th August. Stage 4 restrictions are for six weeks unless otherwise advised by the Government. Sole operators can continue to operate, if they do not have contact with the public, or with people other than those persons living in their primary household. The Premier said that home services (outside the essentials) will also stop under the new restrictions: "There'll be no one providing anything other than emergency support." This indicates that mobile hairdressing and home hairdressing will also not be allowed under the new restrictions. The Premier has announced grants that are available to affected businesses: "I can announce today that all those businesses that are forced to close, restaurants, cafes, beauty, gyms, all of those in regional Victoria as part of stage three will be eligible for a $5,000 grant from our government and we will do our best, our very best to get those paid as quickly as we can. "Same criteria as applied last time. We had the best part of $850, $900 million worth of those payments made out at another point. In terms of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, you will be aware that we are currently in the process of paying out literally thousands of $5,000 grants. "I can announce today will add a further $5,000 to those grants, acknowledging that they will have been under these restrictions now for a period significantly longer than the first six weeks as foreshadowed."

04.01.2022 CASH GRANTS ANNOUNCED FOR VIC SOLE TRADERS Today, Minister for Jobs and Precincts, Martin Pakula, said eligible sole traders in Victoria will receive grants... of $3000. We think that will support around 33,000 sole traders across the state," Mr Pakula said. A summary of eligibility is below: Grants of $3,000 will be available to more than 30,000 sole traders across the state. These are operators who will be closed, heavily restricted or restricted under the Second Step of the Roadmap. Sole traders working in accommodation, tourism and hospitality, non-permitted retail, media and film production, creative studios, outdoor entertainment and in private museums and galleries as well as gym owners will benefit. Sole traders must be a tenant or licensee in a commercial premises or location, be registered for JobKeeper and have a minimum turnover of $75,000. Primary income support for sole traders has been provided by the Commonwealth Government and JobKeeper - the State has focused its efforts on businesses that employ people. This new Sole Trader initiative is recognition of the serious challenges that sole traders have faced and will help tens of thousands of operators to pay their overheads. Apart from today’s announcement, the Victorian Government has previously backed sole traders through the Commercial Tenancy Relief Scheme, the Regional Tourism Accommodation Support Program, the Sustaining Creative Workers fund and the Upskill My Business free training initiative, as well as programs providing mentors and mental health support.
