I am a qualified functional nutritionist and food coach. My son was born with over a dozen severe life-threatening allergies and we were extremely overwhelmed as to what we were going to be able to feed him, let alone nourish him. My daughter suffers from severe anxiety and it was through observing the type of the foods she was eating (even the healthy ones!), that a direct link was able to be seen with her anxiety levels. We’ve lost count of all the different approaches and specialists we’ve attempted along the way to try to get to the root causes, rather than dealing with the symptoms! We have discovered that the type of food we consume, lifestyle we choose to live and the chemicals we allow around us impacts us far more than what we knew. 16.01.2022 I was gifted these unsweetened cranberries at the farmers market on the weekend. They are AMAZING! I’d only ever had sweetened ones! They are more on the sour side - but delicious all the same. Cranberries are a great source of antioxidants and plant compounds - these are mainly found in the skin of the berries, so having cranberry juice won’t offer the same benefits. 13.01.2022 With this cold whether we are having - is perfect for some warming nourishing soup!! It’s as easy as using using up veggies in the fridge with a little bit of chopped up meat or mince and garlic, ginger and turmeric, and let it simmer on the stove until your ready! This is what I’ve put in this - 400g organic beef mince, with 1 tbls finely diced ginger, 2 cloves garlic finely diced, 2 tsp turmeric powder, 1-2 cloves diced garlic, 2 tsp Himalyan salt, 4 baby squash roughly... chopped, 2 med zucchini chopped, 1/2 head broccoli, 1/4 cauliflower and 4 cups chicken stock. Add all ingredients and simmer for about 20mins. These kind of soups are so nourishing to your body and can be cooked in advance! . I sprinkle it with salt and let it sit for about 15 minutes to allow some of the juices to start coming out, I find it makes it much easier to massage together. Sauerkraut is rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Its probiotics also help your body absorb these nutrients more easily, which is what makes sauerkraut more nutritious than raw cabbage.... But is the store bought pre-made sauerkraut just as good? Generally speaking no. There are a few things to keep an eye out on if you are looking for one that may deliver the benefits. * Check the ingredient list. It should only contain cabbage and salt (or possible some other vegetables). If there is anything else added - think salt, preservatives, flavours or colours, it's best to give it a big swerve. * The next thing to watch out for is if it has been pasteurized, which will help with the shelf-life. Off-the-shelf sauerkraut is typically pasteurized, a process that kills the beneficial probiotics. Refrigerated varieties are less likely to be, but check the label to be sure. But overall making your own will contain many more beneficial bacteria.
