23.01.2022 If you can get it right in the first 48 hours you are well and truly off to a flying start with your new puppy. By the time we get you into puppy class we are ...trying to undo problems within the home due to unrealistic expectations, not enough management of young dogs and many families struggling with kids and a young puppy. PRE PUPPY SCHOOL apposed to PUPPY PRE SCHOOL seems to be this missing link! My new course Pre Puppy School - Surviving the Early days is going to bridge that gap. Not long now till we launch!!!!!

22.01.2022 A Sunny Saturday at Ahgunyah Labradoodles.

20.01.2022 The Southern Tablelands weather didn't deter these gorgeous families from enjoying meeting their adorable puppies.

19.01.2022 Hi Annette, Georgia is settling in well and the whole family is in love with her. After 2 days she’s already walking inside her crate for naps on her own and even walking to the door when she wants to go to the toilet! Her first night of sleep went well with her settling down after only a few minutes of whining. I took her out once over the night and she went right back to sleep in her crate when we came back inside. We love her so much!!! Regards L More great news on puppies settling, thank you for being so well prepared. Cheers Annette

14.01.2022 Phoebe being close to her ‘sisters’ when they’re playing with chalk (she hasn’t quite learnt not to chew it yet! ). Thank you Catherine, a lovely little scene. And I am sure you will have the leave it (chalk) rule working soon, she is a clever puppy and you are doing so well with her training.

13.01.2022 Happy families meeting their new puppies.

11.01.2022 A puppy doesn’t have to have had a bad experience with something to be scared of it as an adult dog. Sometimes it’s just a lack of experience during a puppies critical phase period 8 - 16 weeks Brian meeting the postman and having a selfie

10.01.2022 Want to be able to make friends with new dogs when you meet them? You can signal that you’re friendly by using canine body language! We often hear that you’re s...upposed to offer a dog the back of your hand to sniff, but the body language of this move is actually quite threatening. When we lean forward to offer our hand, we’re facing the dog square on, looming over them, making eye contact and invading their space. All of those signals combine into an intimidating message, and as a result many dogs will become uncomfortable when greeted in this fashion. Confident dogs will usually respond with a couple of signals like turning their head away, yawning, or licking their nose, which means they’d like the human to ease up a bit. Shy or anxious dogs will back away, cower, or even growl, snap or bite. The best way to greet a dog is to either stand side on to them and invite them over by patting your leg or calling to them, or crouch down on the ground and let them come to you. This method ensures that it’s the dog’s choice to come and say hello they’re moving up to you, rather than you moving up to them. If the dog chooses not to approach, it means that they don’t want to say hello. It’s important that you respect that choice, and leave them be. If you’re going to be spending some time with the dog, be patient and hang back the best way to win the trust of a shy dog is to avoid putting pressure on them to interact. Move slowly, blink your eyes a lot to avoid staring, and don’t speak loudly. If they approach to sniff you, don’t pet them right away. Let them sniff, then when they’re finished move away from them and try inviting them closer again. Best of luck making some new doggie friends Dog Geeks! We’d love to hear how being conscious of your body language has helped you greet dogs, or if you’ve ever won the trust of a shy dog by being patient and avoiding pressuring them. - Maddie Ross CPDT-KA ---------------------------------------- For more graphics and videos on training and behaviour, check out our library: https://www.beacondogtraining.com.au/thatdoggeek

08.01.2022 Just two brothers for our gorgeous Betty Boo boo first litter. She is a wonderful mum so loving and attentive to her boys. Is that a heart on puppies head!! so sweet! Both promised.

05.01.2022 Daisy In home puppy consult for this gorgeous girl prior to her starting a puppy class course with me. This helps to get the puppy settled immediately, star...t off with good habits from the get go, sleep training, commence some basic training and tackle big topics like toilet training and nipping and biting. Puppy class should be done as early as 8 weeks of age with your puppy so if you can’t get into a course straight away like a lot of people at the moment due to the influx of new puppy owners, be sure to enlist the help of someone who can get you on the right track asap rather than waiting the few long weeks before your puppy class begins. Be proactive with your puppy raising and it will pay off ten fold!! . . . . . . #dalmatian #dalmatiansofinstagram #dalmatianpuppy #dalmatianlovers #dalmatians #dalmatianlovers #dalmatiannation #dogtrainerlife #dogtraining #puppytraining #dalmatianclub #puppiesofinsta #puppygram #puppiesofig See more

05.01.2022 Dog parks.... Something I chat about most days with clients! When we get our dogs, we often have images of sunny days spent sitting on a bench while our canine ...companions have a riot playing with their friends. However, the reality of dog parks can be a bit different. All too often dogs can find them stressful rather than fun. Why? Dogs that are in pain can find playing with others worsens this (and signs of pain aren’t always easy to spot!) We expect our dogs to play ‘nicely’ with every type of dog they meet..... I’m not sure many humans would be able to do this! Often there are high value resources around (food, balls, sticks) and for some having other dogs around to compete for these can be a worry. Even ‘fun’ play can increase stress hormones (ever found it hard to relax after a really amazing day?) Meaning super excited dogs can often react to things that normally they would be able to cope with. Taking an anxious or nervous dog to a park to ‘socialise’ them is almost never the best thing to do. If you have concerns about how your dog feels (or reacts) around other dogs, feel free to get in touch :) #dog #dogsofinstagram #doglife #northlondondogs #dogbehaviour #behaviourist #puppy #puppytrainer #dogtrainer #dogbehaviourist #vet #veterinarian #vettech #vetnurse #veterinarymedicine #vetstudent #vetlyfe #toptip #london #hitchin #letchworth #lifeonfourlegsvet

04.01.2022 Hi Annette, Just a quick note to let you know we arrived back home safely yesterday, and Remy has settled in so well. He is SUCH a good little puppy. Initially cried a lot when put into the crate last night, but settled down after 15 minutes with my hand through the wire, and woke me at midnight for a toilet trip, then straight back to sleep until 6am. Very civilised!!. Thank you for the update AH xo Keep me posted. ... He had a great game of soccer in the back yard with the kids yesterday, lots and lots of cuddles and pats, he has his favourite little toy and seems very happy. He’s not loving being outside in the rain today, so he’s done lots of sleeping today to make up for his big day yesterday. We love him to bits already. Thank you so much for everything! Regards, Amanda

03.01.2022 She says when I get back from the groomers I can, run the paddocks, right now I have to stay ‘clean and dry’ .

01.01.2022 Raising a puppy between 8-16 weeks is a critical time of development. During this imprinting stage we must expose our puppy to the world is a safe and positive ...way. Here is a compilation of things I made an effort to do with my dogs before they were 12 weeks. Socialisation doesn’t stop after this time but this window you are gifted with is so very critical. It brings us to one of our first predicaments as a new owners and that’s because we are often told puppies can’t go out till they are fully vaccinated. While vaccinations are very important we can socialise safely and carefully knowing the following: More dogs loose their life to behavioral issues than they do disease in this country. While there is risk, that risk is worth taking. So think of the dog you want, that dog is built not only with his / her genetics but the experiences during critical / sensitive phase period. Enjoy there is some cute footage in here!

01.01.2022 IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Do you consider what your body language is saying to a dog when you meet??? Great advice in this article.
