19.01.2022 HR teams have a key role to play in ensuring business objectives are achieved. However, as this article highlights, a key challenge for internal HR teams is the ability to call out problem behaviours while balancing the views of the employer and employee. Research has also demonstrated that cultural norms influence perceived behaviours, so that someone who becomes acclimatised to culture can find it more difficult to notice wrongdoings or there is a reluctance to be seen to ...rock the boat and report inappropriate behaviours in the workplace. We have found organisations who are serious about identifying problem behaviours find it helpful to partner with an independent organisation, who can examine the organisational culture from a fresh perspective and provide insights that balance stakeholder perspectives. Once these behaviours have been identified then strategies, policies and procedures as well as training can then be undertaken to address issues. The ASX principles recommend a proactive management of organisational culture, to prevent poor behaviours being revealed only once a workers compensations claim has been lodged, or a court case pursued. This includes independent culture reviews on an annual basis, to shed light on issues and measure improvement as internal awareness increases. #HR #HRpartner #workplaceculture
