25.01.2022 Whilst Chinas treatment of the new Coronavirus strain has been praised for its commitment to transparency with the rest of the world, some question its response to the outbreak. Critics are claiming that Xi Jinpings CCP did not initially react with the approach the virus deserved when it was first discovered in early December. Researchers Yun Jiang and Adam Ni have questioned the responses from the Chinese Government, discussing the blame game that has ensued, propaganda, trust and how the party will be tested in this crisis. 16.01.2022 Brunei Darussalam: An Unexpected COVID-19 Success Story Unassuming and quiet is sometimes the best way to govern in a pandemic. Southeast Asias most overlooked nation, Brunei, has proven its bureaucratic brass and state system functionality, and its success gives credence to its effective leadership and recent reforms in the sultanate. 15.01.2022 President Trump has now been acquitted by the US Senate of all charges related to the abuse of power and obstruction of congress charges laid against him by the US House of Representatives. His acquittal coincides with his highest personal approval rating of 49%. Following the official trial, he took the chance to speak to the public regarding the proceedings which according to Garry ODonoghue veered wildly between self-congratulation to self-pity with a smattering of bili...ous expletives and insults to describe his political opponents. This is compared to the last impeached president Bill Clinton who apologised to the public for the impeachment proceedings. Moving forward, the Ukraine investigation that triggered these proceedings will likely crop up again according to the BBC, however Trump has already acted against those who co-operated with the impeachment case by firing Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman and Ambassador Gordon Sondland.

15.01.2022 In an eye-opening analysis, Ian Parmeter discusses the effect of Covid-19's impact on Middle Eastern Countries. 15.01.2022 The Association of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN) and their Defence Ministers Plus (ADMM-Plus) since its inception in 2010 has been a key staple to defence diplomacy in Southeast Asia. Following the unexpected maritime exercise between the association and China and the succeeding exercise with the US has been claimed by Dr Shang-su Wu as acting as a podium for each superpower to flex their military might and show off their nations military capabilities. According to Dr Wu..., the tussle between the US and China for Southeast Asia would continue, measured by the regularity of ASEAN-Plus exercises as well as the regularity of the US hosting exercise, with more regular exercises and the US hosting more and more exercises being a sign to intensification of tensions between the two. Dr Wu ends his article that even though tensions between the two powers may be high, the ADMM-Plus does not have to bear the full brunt of their flexing and what is laid at their doorstep could be handled by existing security architecture. 07.01.2022 The missile strikes from both the United States and Iran have shown the world how high tensions are between both world powers. Whilst a no war agreement has been agreed upon, softer, more subtle means of retaliation will be Irans primary tool against the United States. Whilst the US and its allies have the capacity to flex its military might against Iran and its proxies, the Iranian leadership according to Ian Dudgeon, will be looking to use its political capital in the regi...on and combat the US in ways such as public demonstration, social media and through motions such as the non-minding motion from the Iraqi government limiting US activities in the region. Ian Dudgeon [aspostrategist.org.au] states that these events will give the Australian Government food for thought regarding whether Australian presence in Iraq is a viable position on the international stage.
