12.01.2022 Congratulations to James Ritchie (AIIA Tasmania Intern) on receiving a scholarship under the 2016 New Colombo Plan. We wish you the very best in Indonesia next year! Here's what James had to say:... " After being embargoed, I can finally announce that I am a 2016 New Colombo Plan Scholar. I felt so privileged and blessed to spend a few days in Canberra with some of the most driven and intelligent students I have ever met. I have never been more confident in the ability of young people to make a positive difference in the world through such a diverse range of fields. It was an amazing honour to be presented with an award by the Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop MP and Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove at a dinner on Monday. I can't wait to get over to Indonesia and study International Relations at Parahyangan Catholic University and Islamic Business, Law and Society at the Islamic University of Indonesia, as well as undertaking professional internships. I am thankful to be supported by the Australian Government under the great initiative of the New Colombo Plan and intend to make the most of the opportunity I have been given. A nice way to finish our time in Canberra was to visit question time and as it happened, without the knowledge of the Foreign Minister, some of us were present in the gallery when the question in this video was asked. I am looking forward to personally acting as an ambassador for the University of Tasmania and we are all looking forward to acting as ambassadors for Australia and enhancing our relations within the Indo-Pacific Region. What an awesome opportunity and what an honour! This is probably as exciting as that time I became an under 8 national poetry champion... yes that really happened. #NewColomboPlan #NCP "
