World Toilet Day seeks to raise awareness of the issues surrounding safe sanitation to prevent the contamination of drinking water, the spread of infectious disease and the poisoning of food crops. However, World Toilet Day, an international day recognised by the @UnitedNations, is also about climate change. Sustainable sanitation can save water, boost local agriculture and reduce greenhou...se gas emissions, helping communities against the threat of global warming. And finally, everybody deserves the right to access a clean and safe toilet! 01.01.2022 Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and the Coalition military intervention that followed is a well-known event in history. But what is perhaps less well-known is the US ambassador to Iraq April Glaspie’s role in the affair. A little over a week before the invasion, with Iraqi troops massing at the border, Glaspie indicated to Saddam Hussein in a meeting that the United States did not intend ‘to start an economic war against Iraq’. Many have argued that Hussein took this comme...nt to mean that he had permission from the US to act and that it was a contributing factor in his decision to invade Kuwait. Of course, that can’t be known for sure. But if you want to learn more about the responsibilities and duties of an ambassador, register now for our Meet the Ambassador Series - United Kingdom!
