25.01.2022 We are happy to announce that we will be recommencing training again from Tuesday 14th of July. At this stage we will still be applying some social distancing and as such we will only be training with weapons (aiki ken and aiki jo) and perhaps some basic footwork and body positioning. I think this is probably a good way to ease everyone back in anyway. We will return to the normal training as soon as it is possible and everyone feels comfortable in doing so.... Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. ---- And please remember the following rules: - Don't come to training if you or someone you are living with are feeling sick. Even with mild symptoms of flu/cold you must stay at home. - Wash hands before and after training. - There will be hand sanitiser to use during class if required during class, but please feel free to bring your own. - Bring your own water bottle, please do no use the cups or taps at the venue

17.01.2022 Hi Everyone Due to the COVID-19 crisis all training will be temporarily cancelled until further notice, effective immediately. Our training venue has decided to cease all operations in the short term and we think this is also a wise time for us to follow suit. In these times it's important to act with a sense of community, and to make sure we look after and protect not only ourselves but everyone in society.... One of the best things about Aikido, a "side effect" to our training if you like, is that it helps you learn to remain calm in stressful situations and I think now is a very good time for calm. If anyone has any questions or concerns then please reach out and we will be back training as soon as we are able. Thanks

16.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago we hosted some visitors from Melbourne who very kindly came all this way to train with us here in Mackay. A big thank you to Chris Sensei, Enzo Sensei and Jamie Sempai for making such a huge contribution to our learning. Over the course of a week we managed to get in about 20 hours of training and while we were all a bit tired and sore in the short term we will all benefit greatly in the long term. ... Apologies to Enzo Sensei and all the rest who trained with us over the week for not getting them in the photo.

16.01.2022 ... Aikido can be thought of as an operating system level upgrade for humans... This is a very interesting take on the philosophical and intellectual side to aikido training. Not everyone will completely agree with Josh but it’s still an interesting read.

11.01.2022 It was fantastic to attend this event again for the first time in a few years. Three days of training with some wonderful people and also some amazingly skilled teachers. After Field Sensei’s passing it’s great to remember that our small dojo still has much support.

08.01.2022 Mastering Aikido can be challenging at the best of times, but even more so when access to those that have already achieved that mastery involves taking two planes and travelling 2500km. Sometime ago our Sensei, the late Michael Field had a vision for assisting people like us, and others, in learning Aikido, no matter where they were, and launched the Online Dojo. Now, under the guidance of his most senior students the Iwama Ryu Aikido Australia Online Dojo has been relaunched.... It has regular classes, how to videos, access to the most experienced sensei in Australia and many more resources. I encourage anyone wanting to learn Aikido, particularly now that we are social distancing which makes traditional training difficult, to check it out. https://www.iwamaryuaikido.com/

05.01.2022 As last week was our final week of training for the year, and as we go off to rest and recharge the batteries for a few weeks, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas period. We have also just committed to another year at Studio 53, and we will be back in action there on January 14th 2020. If you have be...en thinking of giving Aikido a try then please get in touch.
