25.01.2022 It was great to finally have our first contact training session since March.. we tried to brush some of the rust out of our techniques and to get ourselves reacquainted with moving someone else's body. Looking forward to next week

23.01.2022 It was great to finally do some sort of training. We had to keep our distance but it was good to move around again. We worked on centering ourselves and then some sword work.cheers.

22.01.2022 Last week of non contact training tonight. We are really looking forward to next week when we can start training with some touch and feeling into our techniques. Hopefully we are not to rusty. Cheers

22.01.2022 It was amazing to do a live zoom class with Kawabe Shihan today. The opportunity to participate in this is priceless and very rare to the outside world. It is greatly appreciated for all involved

19.01.2022 A massive thanks tonight for Sensei Leigh Dicker for officially opening the new location of the Ballarat Dojo. It was also a big honor for Dicker sensei as the the head of Australia to officially recognize and formally hand over the leadership of the Ballarat Dojo to myself, it was a humbling experience. A massive thanks to the other gents from Geelong that made the trip up the highway to join in with tonight's training it's always a pleasure to have you here with us. Until next week, take care.

15.01.2022 Last night of training tonight for a little while due to the Rona. It has been great training with everyone over the last couple of months and I am looking forward to starting up again once we come out the other side.. a big thy to everyone that has been along for the ride. Cheers.

15.01.2022 A good fun night if training tonight. We did a good amount of weapons training tonight with some weapon on weapons contact work. It is a great way to sharpen up your reaction time. The lads are really starting to get their mind and body around the movement of weapons. Looking forward to next week

14.01.2022 Looking forward to us being able to start up some sort of training this coming Monday after restrictions have been eased. Still no physical contact, but a group fitness class to concentrate on our posture and awareness of our bodies.

11.01.2022 Love the home studio. It is great to get out here for a while when the wife is not teaching pilates. Its a great place to get away for an hour or so. @david_ure @jess.ure @mind_body_balance_pilates

11.01.2022 The Cycle of ConfidenceWhen we start out into unfamiliar territory, it is normal to feel unsure. Particularly in martial arts where mistakes can have serious consequences. False confidence is a dangerous thing. As we begin to become familiar we begin to build an internal model of how things work that gives a student some confidence in how to proceed. However, all models are based on assumptions that are supported by available evidence and sometimes by misunderstandings. As we... go deeper along a path those assumptions start to be tested as more evidence is gathered, and faults in the model may appear. For those attuned to refining the model, this can trigger a kind of crisis of confidence, where sometimes everything comes into question because of the realisation of some key error(s). At times like this, it is best to go back to basics, confirm the foundations, make any necessary changes that will support refining the model so that improved practice, with a working level of confidence is again possible. Perseverance, self awareness and the willingness to recognise errors/misunderstandings and then adapt to improve are essential skills for all dedicated students.

10.01.2022 We only had a small class tonight due to it being a cold Ballarat night. It was great to do alot of one on one training tonight. We did alot of weapons work and we even managed to break one of the Jo's. Whoops. We are looking forward to next week

10.01.2022 Really looking forward to the day we can reopen and start training again. Not only is martial arts great for your body but is even better for your mind and mental state. Hopefully it is not too far away. @jess.ure @mind_body_balance_pilates @david_ure

08.01.2022 Transformation The power to change, to transform through the committed practice of martial arts like DRAJ and SMR is what makes them so valuable as cultural and personal, mental, physical and spiritual practices. Whilst personal development is possible for those who commit to and are accepted by a Koryu ryuha (classical school), it is mainly supported within the context of preserving the way of the school. That means it is not all about you, it is about the continuation of... the ways of the ryuha to which you commit. The positive changes experienced by journeymen and women are not random, they are deliberate and structured, this is particularly so when delivery of training is guided by a master. Training tools and delivery format are adaptive, when applied by expert teachers, to bring out the best in their students as individuals. Along side rigorous physical martial training this polishing of the self is an integral part of the classical schools that I have had experience of. The teaching of dangerous martial skills to individuals who are unstable and non-integrated is something any self respecting ryuha actively seeks to avoid. The leaders of the ryuha typically see their school’s role as to make society better. A traditional dojo is a lot like an extended family, with each member working hard to help maintain the school and keep the art alive through their practice. In Koryu the preservation of the art is central to the school and people are at the heart of it all.

08.01.2022 For those of you that watched Todd Sampson's body hack tonight about the Japanese martial arts, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what the martial arts journey is from this country and culture. It is so much more than being able to fight and use weapons. How it frees up your mind and body is something that can not be explained, but something that has to be experienced.

05.01.2022 Wishing that we could be training at the moment. But we have to make do with the space that we have. Last lock down we turned our garage into a studio that we now practice Pilates out of and also a great place for myself to cross train with jujutsu and general fitness. As long as we have a small place to move around we can all make do with what we have and do some exercises to keep our bodies moving and more importantly our heads clear clean and functional.

02.01.2022 Another night tonight of going through our walking, ukemi and weapons work. Everyone is starting to progress well and are becoming very aware of their posture. I am looking forward to seeing what happens over the next few weeks. Great work lads

02.01.2022 It was great to be a part of this

02.01.2022 A great night of training tonight. We just worked on the one technique tonight, but explored alot of the different angles and functions of the movements that are involved with it. We are looking forward to next week when the geelong crew come up for a visit.

01.01.2022 It was great to train again tonight. We only have one more training session with non contact and then we can start contact training again.. yay..we are all looking forward to that. Cheers

01.01.2022 Good fun night of training. Got to do some work with the lads that we don't normally get to work on. Tonight was a great example of where Jujitsu is the art of folding clothes while they are being worn. Until next week cheers. @david_ure @mind_body_balance_pilates
