23.01.2022 18th birthday in isolation calls for some imagination! Connors birthday so it was a C theme. Cobweb, Cupid, Coronavirus, Captain, Crazy Cook, Carlton Draft, Convict, Clown and Chef. Broom tricks and donkey tail games before things turned a bit crazy, possibly from the rocket fuel jelly shots, possibly because it’s been awhile between nights out! @ Aileron Pastoral Holdings - Aileron Station

12.01.2022 Firstly, we must credit Remote Mechanical for this photo of Anna the dog. We shared it off their page, although the Remote Mechanical crew were here working on our heavy machinery when they took it. But the story is ridgy-didge! Today I received a phone call from a lovely lady in Wentworth NSW, she heard our story on her local ABC Country Hour and wanted to share her hot tips (Natures Botanical - good stuff but cant beat a fly net).

11.01.2022 The competing messages: Isolate (assuming we have adequate food to feed us all). Or go to town and shop more often because, due to limits in store, we can't get the supplies we need in a single trip to town per fortnight. These are the messages we are receiving and trying to work within, meanwhile our basic food and necessary supplies are dwindling. We are limited by #Coles and #Woolworths each visit to the store, despite being 130km from a supermarket and having to buy en...ough food to feed 11 adults x three meals a day. Two tins of tomatoes and 2 bags of pasta is consumed in one meal for 11 people. Meanwhile we are trying to do the right thing by isolating ourselves, following instructions to not visit town unless it is absolutely essential. We call on supply chains to be sensible about our position. We are remote, we have a bigger household kitchen and no access to shops every day of the week. We cannot sensibly isolate or go about our daily lives if our essentials shopping is bound by the same limits as those imposed on urban shoppers. 10.01.2022 Out here, we all do our bit to lessen the distance in urban and country divide. 'Our bit' is to have travelling families come & stay. In exchange for a few hours a day (min 2 weeks stay), helping around the homestead, we enjoy the company of amazing fellow Australians, brave enough to leave their world behind, to learn about our great country. ... Travelling families bring their zest for life, learning about cattle stations, and we get to share the realities of our world. In the past four years, since we've had permanent caravan facilities (thanks to a few "of our" much-loved travelling tradies) the Aileron Station crew have shared dinner with many travelling families. We've talked about drought and school of the air, and killing your own meat and living 'in isolation'. We've talked about animal welfare, land, country and countrymen, what makes us better people and where this world is going. We've listened to what they have to share and they've been great support to our young people. Especially between long bouts of no rain, travelling families have bought joy, appreciation and richness to our lives. Most of all, they share our realities with their friends, in their world. And that's how we try and lessen the distance between urban & country folk. This is a great post from our CAMP in a Van friends, we hope we see you all next year C, A, M & P!

08.01.2022 Lunch break after walking heifers away. Ray (the horse) loves water, and takes himself for a swim in the dam. He actually lay in the water, because he couldn’t get his belly wet enough.

08.01.2022 In April 2019 (14 months ago), in our 3rd year of below average rainfall & following no 18/19 summer rain whatsoever, we sold heifers through the Blackall, Queensland Sale Yards, at an average weight (overall) of 133kg. JM Petrie and DJ Pringle of Blackall bought some of those heifers and today they wrote to advise they sold, top weight 510kgs to average 390kgs, 90% PTIC, made 379c. Best wishes and congratulations David and Jessica of Blackall.... Grant Daniel & Long Blackall Saleyards

08.01.2022 The Territory’s new Minister for Agribusiness, Nicole Manison : Member for Wanguri visited us today. As she pulled up, it started to rain - it didn’t last for long, but if the Minister for Agribusiness brings rain, we’d say that’s a pretty great start to the job! 07.01.2022 Whats your P status ? (Nothing to do with driving or having a relationship!) From the DPIR newsletter (link below): "The Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) Phosphorus Challenge, now in its second year across the Northern Territory, aims to help producers and industry bodies build a better understanding of the potential for phosphorus deficiency in breeder herds grazing various types of country.... There can be significant economic and production benefit in determining accurate Phosphorus (P) status prior to making decisions about how or when to give P supplements to livestock. The 2019 pilot study involved 68 properties, with five properties participating in the free testing in Central Australia, including AZRI. This year, three properties participated, including Old Man Plains Research Station. Chris Materne, Bryan Gill and Kirsten Skinner from AZRI had the opportunity to sample three different mobs from three very different land types on Aileron Station. The bloods have been spun and sent off to the lab, along with faecal samples from the cattle tested and soil samples from the paddock the cattle came from. Results are expected in the coming month. Managers Craig and Sarah Cook said that they hope to use the information to back up what we already believe, that we should supplement P in the mulga and spinifex country, all year round. We were also unsure of the P status on some of our better heifer country, so we are interested in getting the results. 07.01.2022 Easter Saturday night camp oven cook up, dad jokes, riddles & spelling tests. No rodeo, no town trips - but lucky anyway.

06.01.2022 Our friends over at Undoolya Station shared this, no doubt it resonates with our neighbours, our industry and many fellow Australians. Unfortunately though, probably not all Australians. Since C-19 'started', trips to town for our essential supplies has been a bit of a circus. Each time has been more disappointing than the last, in humanity's understanding of the bigger picture. I watched 60 Minutes Australia report on a water issue (to grow food) last night, and National Fa...rmers' Federation's response today. It reminded me of a post from ABC Alice Springs recently, asking 'who would you like to thank throughout this crisis?' More than 40+ comments thanked good people like nurses, police officers and Woolworths workers, but no one (before me) had thanked a farmer. If the world will never be the same again, I hope our fellow Australians develop a deeper appreciation for food produced in Australia, to assist food security and to support farmers with what they need, to make our supply chains work. This article about sums it up.
