25.01.2022 Not all my clients come to me with body image concerns. Some people feel at peace with their bodies in general, but would still like to accept themselves more as 'perfectly imperfect' partners, parents, workers, friends etc. Others are simply sick of judging their bodies harshly and know that there is more to life than punishing themselves.... Those disengaging from diet culture often say 'I know you get it' whilst they put their trust in me and share their raw personal stories. My lived experience informs my work and assists me to connect with my clients lived experiences. People come to me feeling empowered because they've chosen to tend to their emotional health. Honouring their own needs and booking an hour to unpack what's on their minds is invaluable for them. Many of my clients report that after ‘travelling’ with me for a while, the work they've put into seeking clarity through curiosity ripples out to those they love around them. Their relationships improve with others and they become kinder to themselves. What would accepting yourself more feel like to you, and what would your life look like if you did? Feel free to DM me your answers. I'm really enjoying 'meeting' many of you in my DMs and realising that so many of us share similar stories/journeys. Warmest, Ailsa Psychotherapist & Health At Every Size advocate. My private practices are located in Adelaide, South Australia. I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy sessions in the Adelaide Hills and at Glenelg Beach. 09.01.2022 Please let me know what you think of our interview & if you can’t listen right now...save this post as a prompt for when you’re super keen to get your podcast listening ears on!! #Repost @sheisseenmovement with @get_repost New podcast episode is now live, featuring @ailsarobson_walkandtalk ... In this episode Libby speaks to a woman in her forties, we hear about what hormones truly have to gift us as she traverses the experience of having her Mirena removed. This experience brings with it the true ebbs + flows of surrendering to emotions + allowing rest as a cyclical woman. She also chats about body neutrality + how a movement similar to She Is Seen has helped her lean into Health At Every Size . She also touches on the fact that we are the sum of our experiences + wouldn't be where we are without the highs, lows, losses + regrets... wins + moments of gratitude. - @quintessential_being_bynikki There is a link to listen in my bio or just search She Is Seen in your podcast app.

06.01.2022 On Friday evening I'll be out in public in my black bra and knickers because of Libby Tozer's vision of normalising normal women's bodies through her photography and She Is Seen Movement The first time I heard about Libby's photo shoots I wanted to be involved and whilst waiting for a Covid safe opportunity, we connected over our shared belief that all bodies are good bodies. She then interviewed me for her podcast and here it is! I talk about the ebbs and flow of living in your 40's, periods, digging my body and Gwyneth Paltrow's hairstyles (go figure)! Please have a listen and let me know what you think :) xx https://www.buzzsprout.com//6527950-the-ebbs-flow-of-livin

05.01.2022 Brilliant repost from @intuitively.eaten with @get_repost (I’ve added my 2 cents in the comments ) I can’t even count the amount of times I have complimented someone for losing weight. It’s something I regret now, but at the time I didn’t know any better.... I thought it was nice to notice and acknowledge their ‘efforts’ and ‘hard work’. To be fully transparent, I also probably thought they were improving their ‘health, (thanks diet culture!), and I probably wished I had lost weight too. There are so many reasons why complimenting weight loss is problematic. Weight loss compliments: - Perpetuate weight stigma and fatphobia, as they promote the notion that smaller bodies are ‘better’ bodies. - Are harmful. Given diets don’t work for over 95% of people in the long term, you are also complimenting people for something that is unsustainableand when they inevitably gain the weight back, they will likely feel shame and worse about themselves as the compliments decline. Can you imagine how it feels to gain weight and no longer receive those compliments? - Spread the normalisation of disordered eating behaviours, and may further encourage the suffering that comes with food restriction/obsession, over-exercising and body fixation. - Support the idea that smaller bodies are ‘healthier’ bodies, which is incorrect. You can be healthy at any size. - Help to promote and maintain toxic diet culture messaging. - Inadvertently create body shame, as it is being suggested that they look better now than they did before they lost weight. - Perpetuate the idea our worth is directly correlated to our weight. - Do not take into consideration that weight loss may not have been intentional and may be related to illness, grief or mental health issues. As mentioned, I am very guilty of giving weight-based compliments myself. I have also been on the receiving end of these compliments, and while they may have given me an initial buzz, they always left me feeling a bit empty and anxious about maintaining the weight I currently was (which was not an easy feat). Some food for thought, and encouragement to reflect before doing this in the the future.

03.01.2022 I saw over 15 long neck tortoises at a local lake during a Walk and Talk session yesterday. It was just after the announcement that South Australia was to go into lockdown at midnight for 6 days. There wasn’t anyone else at the lake, and it was if the animals were taking advantage of the peace. ... We saw tortoises sun baking on logs, blue wrens flitting around the bushes and heard beautiful frogs singing. Apparently tortoises are seen around the world as a symbol for wisdom, security, endurance, peacefulness, longevity, and patience. I feel it embraces our present moment in time perfectly as we have to stay home, be patient, use our wisdom and create our own peace. I also noticed yesterday, in the middle of a gridlocked supermarket car park, a black cockatoo calling out and gliding through the air. Her call reminded me of how nature is unperturbed by the folly us human beings have found ourselves in...that wild life will go on and that we mustn’t assume our importance in the scheme of things. I felt humbled. I felt grateful for the reminder. What are you noticing my fellow South Australians? I’m curious Peaceful tortoise blessings, Ailsa x #southaustralianlockdown #peramangkcountry #woorabindabushlandreserve #wildlife #longneckedtortoise #patiencewisdom #noticing #lockdown2020 @ Adelaide Hills
