02.01.2022 Imagine a world where the big 4 banks had even more power. The removal of the mortgage broker channel will hand them this. All the smaller, specialised, and highly competitive lenders would lose a key 'shopfront' for their products, giving consumers much less choice! The recommendation to shift to a consumer-paid, upfront fee is also very interesting to say the least. No doubt the banks would also need to charge this to 'level the playing field' of competition. So either way,... broker or no broker, the client loses! The broker channel provides a level of competition not seen prior to the industry's inception. Equally importantly, is the level of personal service your broker can provide (at no cost to you) that the banks cannot. Support the broker channel - not for the broker, but for the good of competition in the lending industry for all (well, maybe slightly less for the big 4 banks!)
