23.01.2022 I just wanted to share what a good and eloquent friend of mine just posted which should hopefully help advice people who still arent sure what this is about or why CoviD is goinG to be a troublesome nUisance For a while. Dear friends, I was recently asked to share my medical opinion with a social group of which I am a part. I was then asked to share that post publicly so that it could be shared, so here it is, modified for a more general audience:...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Many patients have experienced distress and fear during this pandemic as the world as they know it has come crashing down. For those with family, this has been a time for coming together to connect and share their distress. They have found ways of getting together and sharing their concerns. Others who have a lot of dysfunction in their lives, however, have found this to be a very trying time. Loneliness, store shelves without supplies, no one to talk to and even financia...l distress as jobs and businesses close. Their world has imploded and their sense of control has eroded. It is important in this time to reach out to your GP, priests/pastors, counselors to share your fears. You are not alone, however much it may feel like the world has gone crazy. CovID is notable for being recorded live on TV with death counts and panic. It has just opened our eyes to the impermanence of life. In fact, this has always been the world you live in. We are exposed daily to many diseases, many of which our immune system quietly fights without involving us. In every winter season, there is a percentage of people who die quietly of flu, cholera, malaria and any number of parasitic, viral and bacterial diseases. It is a well known fact that the infectious disease specialist warn us about of the waning efficacy of many of the antibiotics we use. Viruses, as I tell my patients all the time, have always been intractable little beasties, often, out of our control as we lack many efficacious antivirals to combat them. CovID's greatest claim to fame, is it's propensity to cause pneumonia which is and has always been a difficult disease to treat. In a pandemic setting, this obviously strains medical resources. But there is light at the end of this tunnel. Staying healthy, practicing healthy habits, avoiding behaviors that can expose us to illness have and will always be the way to avoid the many bugs out there. Sanitation and healthy behaviors brought us out of the plague years in Europe and continue to make our lives better. If you are struggling to cope, see your GP, counselor or pastor and talk through it. This will pass once we understand the virus a little better and have some strategies in place to deal with its peculiarities. We will go on. Just keep the faith and stay strong. See more

20.01.2022 We've officially opened at our new location. It's been busy and patients have been applauding the new move to functional medicine. Many people however have been asking what functional medicine is...the simple answer is ...we look at EVERYTHING else that can be causing your problem BEFORE we reach for a pill. Many illnesses that patients accept as inevitable are lifestyle diseases, related to poor sleep, poor food quality, poor tooth care, sick gut, too many antibiotics, stres...s in life (work, kids, partner, self). We are the most unhealthy we've ever been in the world despite all the advances in technology, medicine, and science simply because the more we are able to do, the more we abuse ourselves. This is taking a toll on our lives and this toll which evidences as disease is why so many people are on medications. Think of the chronic headache you get, the inability to fall asleep, the grumbly belly, the fatigue, the bad periods, the low libido, the hair loss, the dry flaky skin/hair/nails...These all are abnormal and point to cortisol dysregulation, gut dysbiosis, gluten intolerance, and more. What functional medicine does, is look for the underlying cause of the presenting problem and use supplements, behavioral changes, diet changes and more to help you get better. Does that mean disease will never come, no, we just figure out ways to minimize your propensity to disease and augment your body's ability to heal using now forgotten techniques that we have had for years? Why take glucosamine and chondroitin if bone broth can give you the same nutrient in a better bioavailable form with other necessary nutrients to augment its absorption. Why take a sleeping pill if meditation, valerian, and melatonin will fix the problem naturally. Functional medicine looks for the root cause and clears it to help you achieve optimal health. That has always been our goal at AIMHI and we look forward to continuing to work with you towards your health goals. Many people have also asked about cost. Unfortunately, much of what we do is not covered by Medicare. This means we have to change to a private billing model of care. While you may still qualify for some rebates from Medicare, you will have to cover the costs up-front when you visit us. We look forward to seeing you at our new location...your partner in good health, AIMHI.

15.01.2022 We are proud to announce that we are extending our PRP treatment offerings. Platelet rich plasma has been a new treatment process, used in orthopaedic medicine and by elite athletes to treat torn tendons, tendinitis, muscle injuries, arthritis-related pain, and joint injuries. In cosmetic medicine, it is used by dermatologists and hair replacement specialists to treat a hair loss type known as androgenic alopecia. Vampire facials consist of PRP injections into the face and... neck to rejuvenate tired blotchy aging skin, as well as in place of hyaluronic acid as a filler for those who like the holistic, and natural way these products work. Using blood drawn from your body, the platelets are spun off and injected into the area of interest and break down to release growth factors which work to repair damaged cells. Treatments may be as few as 1 injection to repair torn or damaged meniscii or rotator cuffs to as many as 6 months of treatment to regrow hair or rejuvenate sagging skin. We offer these and more at AIMHI as part of our holistic medical therapies. Ask how we can help address these problems for you. Ask us also how these therapies can help with sexual rejuvenation as well. See more

15.01.2022 We are shifting gears. Debuting a 100% functional medicine clinic at AIMHI starting August 1, 2020. After a year and a half of testing the concepts, engaging with patients and sharing my philosophy of medicine, we are now stepping out fully into the Integrative medical model to focus on providing Wellness for our patients. The last year and a half have really brought home to me the value of the integrative approach and many successes for patients in the short time I've been ...switching gears. As with any major shift in methodology, it takes prudence, fear and no small amount of self-doubt to walk on the edge of the world, but the results of the past year have convinced that this really is the better way. By embracing the integrative method and spending time with patients, we have managed to change behaviors, reduce addictions, save lives, marriages, futures, and more. Patients have stopped drinking, reduced opioid use, come off antidepressants, and gained a sense of a brighter future of wellness, fueled by their efforts and lifestyle changes. We have tested the AIMHI method, and found that it works and are now ready to deploy the model fully to serve our clients. We offer integrative medical methodologies to patients with chronic inflammatory disorders which affect a multiplicity of organs and present in myriad ways and look for and address root cause issues to achieve wellness. Visit us for complementary medicine, integrative medical therapies that help you stave off illness and reduce the sequelae of your chronic illness. Let a physician/ GP well trained in general medicine help you, using new integrative methodologies in a new wellness framework to help you.

14.01.2022 More good news Evidence is mounting that CovID is spread by droplet not aerosol. This means that not shaking hands, staying at least 1.5-2m away from sniffly coughing people should reduce your chances of getting infection. If you are coughing, please cough into your elbow or your shirt. Avoid coughing openly into the air or people's faces. Time to have a cone of Cov around you...the CovID bubble. Hope this info helps.

12.01.2022 Corona virus How to it is important in this time of coronavirus spread to practice what has become known as extreme social distancing. The only way to stop the spread of the virus is to avoid crowds. Stay at home if you dont have to go out, order your groceries online and avoid places where people congregate. Unfortunately, the cat is out of the bag and as CovID is already here and coming in all the time as long as flights into Australia continue, one must exercise caution.... Yes, the corona virus does appear to have higher lethality than the flu, nevertheless, it acts like the flu and pretty much any other rhinovirus. People who have chronic disease, are elderly or very young are likely to suffer more severe illness, nevertheless again, it is usually just like a bad flu. Sniffles, head cold, flu-like symptoms are common symptoms particularly since the cough and cold/flu season seems also to be starting at this time. Even for corona virus, most of this degree of illness is recoverable and there is no need for anyone to panic. DO NOT COME INTO THE CLINIC!!! STAY AT HOME! Please do yourself and the rest of the country a favor. If you merely have the sniffles, sleep, rest, stay hydrated and wait to get well. There are no antibiotics to cure viruses and no meds at this time for corona virus and there is no fast-tracking to getting well, only TIME. Testing is only offered for VERY specific findings which do not include mild sniffles, head cold and sore throat. So when should you worry...not if you have a fever but if you develop shortness of breath and difficulty breathing, fast pulse etc...signs that you may have a viral pneumonia. This is when your risk of severe illness goes up. What should you do then??? IF you are SERIOUSLY ILL, call the clinic and we will either Skype with you to determine if further intervention is needed. On arrival, text us from the car, we will bring a mask out to you and then assess you in a private room. We do not want to spread any viruses at this time. Please follow these instructions. We do not want to contribute to the spread of this disease. If you are too unwell, call 000, tell them your suspicions and they will retrieve you to the hospital. Again, common sense. Do not tax the health system with false alarms. Most people with corona virus and flu get better. Only a fraction get sick enough to warrant worry. Use common sense and we will all get through this pandemic as well. These are not new problems and we know how to solve them. https://i.insider.com/5e6a58e684159f61963287a2 Yours in partnership for health Dr. Akua Agyeman

06.01.2022 A reminder that we are OPEN at Agyeman Integrative Medical Health Institute. We pride ourselves in keeping our medical practice COVID-19 free with the following daily procedures. This is what we are doing to keep ourselves and our patients safe: Viraclean (hospital-grade disinfectant) all chairs, armrests, benchtops, door handles... IF you DONT want to leave home, for whatever your reason, thats quite okay. We are offering Chronic Disease Management and Health Assessment Consultation appointments, also covered by Telehealth Medicare and bulk billed. 03.01.2022 Something I found on the net which seems reasonable :Surgical Masks Yes, I know that our US "experts" have been saying that they are not useful, however this is the ONE practice that we think has made an enormous difference in Hong Kong. Italians didn't put on masks. Hong Kongers, Singaporeans, Taiwanese and most of the rest of Asia are doing it. Here in HK about 99 percent of people are wearing them in public places. I recommend the regular surgical mask, the paper kind. Do...n't bother with the N95, which is uncomfortable, and kind of overkill. The experts all say that "masks don't work". It's true that they won't protect you from 100% of virus particles. But in a densely packed city like Hong Kong, or New York, the point of a mask is not to protect yourself--it is a community effort to protect OTHERS. It works if the majority of people cooperate and do it TOGETHER. This virus is spread by carriers who don't have any symptoms, so you have to visualize yourself as a potential carrier and wear it even if you are not feeling ill. Please consider taking up mask-wearing in crowded, closed public places. I hope it catches on in New York City. Personally I would not go on ANY public transport without a surgical mask right now. IMPORTANT: When you take off the mask, DON"T TOUCH THE OUTSIDE, only handle it by the side loops. It's contaminated! Keep a little plastic baggie on hand to put the mask in after you use it. And DON'T RE-USE a surgical mask--use a new one every time. Both the obsessive hand hygiene and the mask wearing sound--and at first feel--ridiculous. But seriously it is the major reason why Hong Kong has dodged this bullet against all odds. I've watched in awe these last few weeks as the community came together to protect the people, when the government would not. What's more Hong Kong has a robust center for disease control that is transparent (we know about EVERY new case as it is discovered, and how it was introduced, and where the sick people have been living and visiting). In an epidemic like this we are only as strong and safe as our weakest link. See more

01.01.2022 Trigger points can be pretty persistent and not remediable by massage or PT or chiropractic treatments. Superficial ones tend to respond well to these modalities but deep fascial and tendon level trigger points can be hard to reach without dry needling or acupuncture. Talk to us to see how dry needling may help treat and minimize some of your muscle aches and pains. Trigger point treatment with dry needling followed by K-laser therapy to amp up your recovery can be a very effective post workout recovery technique for athletes and sports people. Consider booking a visit after a workout for non-medical pain relief. Why take NSAIDs when you can use these natural therapies to address pain and hasten recovery
