16.01.2022 Congratulations on Team Aimrite diver @erinmcginty on this incredible fish shot with her Aimrite King Venom reelgun! Wahoooo! World record 43kg sailfish on a reel gun. What a day! Not much more could have gone wrong this morning with boat issues but it was all worth it. The fish dived and nearly spooled my reel before coming to the surface and taking me for a long tow. Being my first billfish landed, I had no idea where to grab it...don't recommend the tail thanks to the most supportive dive buddies you could hope for @kalle_cl @stephylucht @allthefishes8626 @fiftycal90 and making it an epic day. 11.01.2022 Hunting in the UK with @wetmammal ! Last UK Dive ! . . .... A strange feeling of sadness but also joy entering UK waters for the last time in awhile. . . Needless to say what an epic dive and haul. The bass you see went 62cm and the Mullet not far off. . . This bass actually came from a surface ambush shot and i was absolutely chuffed to bag a nice fat bass to wrap things up. . . The shot on the smaller mullet was exceptional the mullet came out of the spaghetti weed at full speed and i just so happened to point and shoot for a clean headshot and instant death. . . One lobster was exposed chilling next to a big rock and didnt put up much of a fight. The other lobster i had tried luring out of his hole the previous day and failed to get him. Luckily i made my mark and went back the next morning to surprise him. He still took about an hour and a half to wiggle out of his cave using some skillful spearwork to get behind him and get him close enough to grab. . . Im definitely going to miss diving in my home waters. . . Here are a list of the species i managed to bag whilst home... In no particular order... Bass, Pollack, Plounder, Triggerfish, Queen Scallop, King Scallop, Velvet Swimmer Crab, Spider Crab, Brown Crab, Lobster, Dab, Plaice, Thick-lip Mullet, Thin-lip Mullet and Golden Mullet. . . That doesn’t even include the huge variety of fish and ocean life seen but not for consumption. . . 10.01.2022 Big days sitting on the deck watching and waiting... A total of 18 hours over 2 days suited up and ready to go! I forgot how exhausting it can be using this technique to target billfish, your concentration and energy can quickly drain wearing a wetsuit in the sun all day however on day 2 I used some of the new @oceanblendfishing Hydr8 and noticed a considerable difference from day 1. 08.01.2022 New (pending) World Record and Australian Record Giant Sweetlips aka Blubberlip aka Slatey aka Wong. While a few of you will get a good laugh out of this (don’t worry I did as well) there is a pretty cool story behind this catch! The current WR is 17.1kg (2013) and the Australian Record is 18.1kg which has stood for 49 years (1971)!! When I first saw this fish below me in a crevice between to Bommies I knew instantly that it was much much bigger than any GS (Giant Swe...etlips) I have ever seen before and that it was easily over 20kgs. Due to the fact they are not great eating, I have only ever shot one GS since I started spearfishing, a fish that was approx 12-13kg (I think every spearo has shot at least one Slatey in their lifetime). I initially chose not to shoot this fish but after diving down 3 times to assess the size I couldn’t pass it up and knew it was going to decimate the current records!! Not only would it smash the records, I would shoot and land this fish with an Aimrite Envy Rollergun - a speargun that I reengineered and redesigned to outperform any Aimrite rail/Rollergun built prior! To me this is special and if you feel the need to have a laugh on my behalf go ahead, I am happy I made you smile! 04.01.2022 #Repost @chrisburnhamphoto After living in Arnhem land for 8 years and barely having a crocodile encounter it made me really complacent. This encounter was as good as they come, the scariest part was swimming past it without seeing it, only to have Mitch scream "croc" soon after he rolled out of the boat, noticing it on the bottom after the bubbles cleared from his mask. The confidence came to stay in the water with 3 experienced divers, with cumulative 50+ years experience ...along with an experienced boat driver who also ended up scoring a swim with the elusive Saltwater crocodile. We watched the crocodile for 6 minutes before diving on it and ended up spending around 20 minutes in the water swimming with the majestic lizard. I by no means condone swimming with crocodiles, this was a unique encounter as you can tell from the 15kg Spanish mackerel swimming around it in the blue water.
