12.01.2022 A small group of Friends of the RAAF Museum and Mosquito Aircraft Association of Australia Volunteers gathered at the Australian Flying Corps Memorial at Point ...Cook on Sunday 19 February 2017 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin on that date in 1942. They listened to a brief description of the first Japanese raids on Darwin, an account of the deaths, injuries and destruction caused to the town. The Ode was followed by a minute,s silence and the laying of some flowers. Afterwards, they exchanged memories and thanks, went back to the Flightline for a cuppa and back to their tasks. It was a simple commemoration held by the small group. They left with memories of the RAAF personnel who had trained on this same base and went to war. Lest We Forget. See more
