01.01.2022 I have a shudder when I’m braking. What is it caused by? This is a common question. If you’ve had a sudden heavy braking moment there’s a good chance that your rotors have a heat and pressure generated impression of your brake pads embedded on them! So... every time you brake thereafter, the uneven surface of the rotors spin around under the pads resulting in a shudder being felt back through the vehicle. If you have enough thickness left in your rotors we can machine them back to a smooth and even surface. If they’re too worn or if they are warped then new rotors are required. So... if you have a heavy braking moment, if it’s safe to do so, let your foot off the brake pedal enough to let the pads move on to a fresh section of rotor as they cool down. Another good reason not to follow too closely or pull up right on the white line
