25.01.2022 Hotel Humour to get you through your Friday!!. Checked in to a hotel this week and asked for an early morning wake up call. At 7am, the receptionist called and said What are you doing with your life? Stayed in a posh hotel with towels so thick I could barely shut my suitcase.... Guest being served his pizza was asked if he wanted it cut into six or twelve pieces. Six, he said, I could never eat twelve. Couldnt get my phone to work in my hotel room, so went downstairs. They had reception there. Arrived at a hotel, said I was there for the Twitter conference. Concierge said Follow me..

23.01.2022 Riverfire!!! Saturday 29th September Just a heads up as Riverfire is at the end of the month and it is a peak night for accommodation throughout all of Brisbane. We have only a couple rooms available. You can't quite see the fireworks from here (even on tipee toes) but the train proves to be quite popular to get in and out from here to South Bank or the City. Should be a cracker of the night!!!

This is traditionally a quiet time of the year for the motel and we have some great rates available over the holidays so please contact us if you are needing a great place to stay during this time. 20.01.2022 Dick Smith for PM!!!...or at least let's start with keeping our money in Australia!.. Some of you may have seen Dick Smith once again sticking up for Aussie businesses, and sharing the story of the impact that the big online travel agencies (namely booking.com, expedia etc) are having on the hotel/motel industry. Dick put up a video on YouTube last week, and appeared on A Current Affair this week. Many online forums have picked up the story also. I know the message has been g...etting across because I have received several phone calls this week asking about whether the story is true. You bet it is!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXIAgGNRa4g At the end of the day, I like many hotels/ motels are appreciative of any bookings (no matter where they come from) however wouldn't it be nice to be able to keep this commission (15-30%) in Australia. Because the vast majority of online travel agencies (I'm not talking about your local travel agent here) are foreign owned, they aren't registered for GST in Australia, so none of this money is staying in Australia. On behalf of anyone that you know that owns or runs a motel/ hotel, if you could share the message we would all be extremely grateful!!

20.01.2022 Let's get ready to Rumble!!!!! Origin Game 3 is July 11 at Suncorp - next Wednesday. If you are travelling to Brisbane next week, just keep this in mind as typically there are a lots of people in town for the game (including lots of country people who have bullbars and don't care much for traffic) and accommodation etc is pretty light on the ground. Needless to say, based on our record, QLD is overdue for a win....

17.01.2022 These lovely lads (Sam and Richard) stayed at the motel tonight, preparing for a cancer council rally from Brisbane to Darwin setting off tomorrow. Mind you they have already driven from Townsville to Brisbane so they could participate in the rally. They would love your support. They have been very active in raising funds so I thought the least we could do is give them somewhere to rest for the night and share their page. 13.01.2022 And it's on again, the big decider. It's going to be an epic battle this coming Wednesday between the Maroons and the Blues. We have fully booked out for the night well in advance. To all those lucky people coming in to go to the big match we look forward to your arrival. Please ask at the office at check-in for the best way to get to Suncorp Stadium. Steve will be back at the desk this week also after having a well earned holiday. Defintely looking forward to seeing his smiling face.

06.01.2022 It is fast approaching that time of year when we have a lot of people staying over for a few nights, visiting family and friends. Because of this we recently put microwaves in all the rooms (previously only in the family rooms). Our 'Breakfast Room' is also equiped with everything you will need for a few nights stay (cutlery, crockery etc), which you can help yourself to as you require. 06.01.2022 As part of our ongoing upgrade to the motel we have recently invested in Lily Hill luxury plush mattress toppers for all our queen beds. We have commercial grade mattresses on all our beds which some guests find a bit firm for their personal tastes so the extra comfort provided by the new toppers has been greatly appreciated by all. Also, a big thank you to our painting crew who have worked so hard to repaint all our rooms. They look amazing, so much lighter and fresher.

04.01.2022 State of Origin is rapidly approaching with Game 1 on Wednesday 31st May and Game 3 on Wednesday 12th July, both in Brisbane. We have rooms available on our website only for these nights so book direct for a great deal if you are going to the game or travelling in general on these nights. Our Private Shuttle Service will be available on these two nights to assist guests wishing to get to the games. Further details will be posted in the following week.

04.01.2022 Big thanks to Brendan and John at Hydrokleen that cleaned all our split systems over the last couple weeks. A big job but one that I know everyone will appreciate with the hotter summer weather on its way. Not to mention that the split systems are bound to be more hygeinic and generally healthier having had such a thorough clean. Thanks again guys!

03.01.2022 We would like to introduce Steve and Tiffany of Le-chele's Ride Share Services who have recently started working with us to provide an airport pick-up service (up to 8PM) as well as taking over our existing drop-off service in the morning (from 5AM). We were going to post a picture of Steve and Tiffany but they said that their cars were prettier... Hopefully next post. To take advantage of the airport pick-up service please TEXT 0426 240 568 (preferably the day before) with y...our full name, flight number and date of travel. A return text will follow with pick-up instructions. Cost is $15 total up to 4 pax; 5-7 pax - $20. Big thanks to Steve and Tiffany's friendly, efficient professionalism as the feedback thus far from guests that have used their services has been fantastic. We have found this extension to our services to have greatly benefited our guests by minimising the stress of transfers to and from the airport. A'win win' situation for all. See more

03.01.2022 We frequently have guests who arrive in Brisbane in the morning (before check-in time) ask us 'what's there to do?'. We put the thinking cap on and came up with the following. There are a great selection of eateries and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the motel which offer a varied selection of cuisines. The S-Bar Cafe & Restaurant and the Ohio Cafe are both open from breakfast onwards and the restaurants from 11:30am. ... Also close by is a combined coffee/gift shop just down at the Junction / Sandgate Roads corner with the Brisbane Antique Emporium right alongside it - oh the temptations there! DFO shopping precinct is a 10 minute drive/taxi from the motel. For those wanting to head in to the city or Southbank, the bus stop is directly across the road from the motel and Clayfield Train Station just 30 metres further along. 15 minutes and you're in the city or Southbank! Toombul Shopping Centre is an easy 500 metre walk from the motel where you can find any number of stores, food court and cinemas. Just across the road from the shopping centre is a great park with extensive walking paths.

03.01.2022 For those that are heading to the Ekka this year (August 10-19), feel free to drop in on one of our regulars, Leo Thompson. He will be there with some of his award winning goats from his stud farm- Datadoo Anglo Nubians. Have a photo taken with one of his goats (better known as a "Gelfie" in the industry) and go in his prize draw!! Should be well worth a drop in to say hi.

In the time I have been here (nearly 6 years), Princess Thai, Sakana Japanese, S Bar Cafe and Marinara's have consistently delivered for our guests. Thanks Setep, Jarod, Sebastin and Haru. I wonder sometimes if people are coming back for our rooms or the food :) A bit of both I hope!!
