WORK on the Gold Coast Airport’s ILS have been suspended until after a hearing before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.... The tribunal’s interim decision says it has ‘limited the scope of the review to works on the airport lease (ie: Commonwealth land). Therefore it will not consider matters other than those directly relating to the on airport works. One of the appeal applicants has been removed from the process as lacking standing, while the two remaining parties have been found to have standing but with a reduced scope of review. No stay of works has been granted and a further hearing on that point will be scheduled in July/August after submissions are received from the applicants by the AAT. Gold Coast Airport will not proceed with works while we await the outcome of the next hearing. Queensland Airports Limited CEO Chris Mills said Gold Coast Airport is comfortable with the interim decision handed down by AAT. We remain committed to the ILS project and are working through this appeal process with the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development and Airservices Australia. Obviously we are mindful of delays to the project and the ability to deliver this critical infrastructure prior to the Commonwealth Games, and appreciate AAT’s efforts to progress the case as quickly as practicable. We respect the AAT process and look forward to the next hearing, Mr Mills said. The Gold Coast Lifestyle Association, the Tugun Cobaki and a Gold Coast man John Hicks have lodged the appeal against the federal government’s decision to allow the installation of the ILS. See more
