23.01.2022 Congratulations to Tokyo bound boxer Alex Winwood on being awarded the 2020 Wally Foreman Foundation scholarship. Wally Foreman Foundation Chair Glen Foreman said, "Alex's dedication is clear, but when events occur out of our control, we need support which is why the Wally Foreman Foundation exists. The global pandemic meant that, despite his best efforts at juggling his responsibilities, Alex was facing the possibility of being unable to adequately prepare for the biggest moment of his career. Alex has proven his credentials in the ring, now it's about ensuring a fair fight, and the Foundation is proud to help him prepare to represent his state, country, family and community proudly."

23.01.2022 Huge period coming up for our athletes with Taekwondo Olympic Qualifiers on at the Gold Coast on Saturday 29th Feb, Boxing Olympic Qualifiers in Jordan from 3-11 March and Wrestling Olympic qualifiers in Morocco on 14-15 March. Good luck to everyone competing!! In addition we have Judo, Karate and Fencing trucking through international comps as part of their ongoing Olympic qualification processes. One particular recent performance of note was Katharina Haecker winning Australia's first Judo Grand Prix gold medal in Tel Aviv. Great stuff - with her performances making it into the Euronews highlight reel - https://www.euronews.com/20//24/history-made-for-australia

22.01.2022 The future of Australian elite national HP combat sport is on the horizon....

21.01.2022 Great work by the Australian Boxing Team in camp at the AIS Combat Centre last week ! Everyone trained hard, stayed focused and "Rolled With It" in the face of a number of challenges. The men are now completing their final preparation in India (along with more challenges) and the women continue to prepare at the AIS and in Thailand. Not in the photo are Anja and Kaye working hard on the Central Coast before the team meets up in Wuhan China for the Asia/Oceania Olympic Boxing qualification event.

14.01.2022 Delayed update on recent Olympic and Paralympic Qualification events across combat sports Australia was successful in qualifying four Olympic and three Paralympic quotas for Taekwondo at the Oceania Qualification Tournament on the Gold Coast on 29 February with Stacey Hymer (57kg), Reba Stewart (+67kg), Safwan Khalil (58kg) and Jack Marton (80kg) all winning their Olympic disciplines. Whilst Steven Currie, Janine Watson and Kara Fournie also won through their respective K44 d...ivisions to qualify quotas for the Paralympic Games. Great stuff!! Meanwhile in Boxing at the Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualifiers held in Jordan - Australia had five athletes qualify their spots for the Olympic Games. Alex Winwood (52kg) won a box-off on the final day, Skye Nicolson (57kg) won bronze and Caitlin Parker (75kg), Paulo Aokuso (81kg) and Justis Huni (+91kg) all won silver to qualify in their respective events. The rest of the athletes turn their attention to the final world Olympic qualifier due for Paris in May. We already have two more quotas for Tokyo than we had for Rio 2016! With the ongoing challenges regarding coronavirus many of the other Olympic qualification events have been postponed so we wait eagerly to find out where to from here for most other combat sports. But great to have the 12 spots above confirmed for Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Well done all!!!

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Australian Super Heavyweight boxer Justis Huni who took Bronze at the AIBA 2019 World Boxing Championships. The result could easily have been even better for Justis as he had to withdraw from the semi-finals bout against the top-seeded Kazakhstani boxer Kamshybek Kunkabayev due to medical reasons. The whole Australian men’s team put in an commendable performance, well done to all ! With this latest World Champ’s experience under their belts the boxers will now be focusing on the big one Tokyo Olympics!
