25.01.2022 The AITC pay our respects and acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land, rivers and sea. AITC acknowledges and pay our respects to the Elders, past, present, and emerging, of all nations. NAIDOC Week celebrations are usually held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.... This year because of the COVID-19 pandemic NAIDOC Week was postponed to November. NAIDOC is celebrated in Indigenous communities and by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This year’s theme is Always Was, Always Will Be and recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. The 2020 national NAIDOC poster, Shape of Land, was designed by Tyrown Waigana, a Noongar (Perth region) and Saibai Islander (Torres Strait) man. Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the rainbow serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. The colour from the rainbow serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the rainbow serpent, thus connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country since the dawn of time Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal land. Please explore the resources to support awareness & understanding: https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2020-theme

23.01.2022 The young people at the AITC are still working hard during their school holidays if that be in a school based apprenticeship or by getting out into industry for work experience. We are proud that they are out demonstrating hard work and a passion for pursuing their career goals and trying their best to stand out from the crowd. We are educating tomorrow's industry leaders, it starts from day one learning what industry expects from their employee's and building young people to be ready to meet these expectations.

21.01.2022 An important part of the year 10 program is attending trade taster. The young people get introduced to a variety of different trades to help them decide what trade they would like to pursue for the future. Well done to our latest cohort of year 10 young people for giving hair and beauty a try. Based off feedback provided last year from our AITC families we have added this exciting unit to Trade Taster. Some found a hidden talent and others discovered it was time to put the clippers down and work with different power tools.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Connery who has been signed up into a school based mechanical apprenticeship with Advance Motors Dalby. Connery is a member of our foundation class and has been working towards this goal since July 2019. Maximising each stage of the industry program has help Connery find his way to this apprenticeship and he should be very proud for what he has now achieved. It is exciting to see all your hard work pay off Connery and we know you will do a great job.

17.01.2022 Adam has spent his time during his work experience block building resort furniture (pictured building a daybed). A skill that Adam's friends and family will be happy to benefit from. Work experience does not have to stop in the workplace - perhaps your young people can also be put to the task at home as well. We often find that our budding apprentices often have some fantastic home projects that they are working on. We would love to see them - so please share if your AITC Young Person is working on their own passion project. Thanks RJW Joiner for giving Adam this fantastic opportunity.

15.01.2022 It is valuable for young people to explore their career options before deciding on where their talents lie and what career they are going to pursue. Tim completed his first work experience block in carpentry and more recently spent some time doing work experience in electrical. This has helped Tim get some clarity on his career choices before signing up into an apprenticeship that may not have been the best fit for him. Tim has decided to pursue carpentry as his trade of choice and can now take the skills he has learn during both work experience blocks on to the next job.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Michael who was signed up into a school based plumbing apprenticeship today with Craig Southey Plumbing Toowoomba. Michael is a part of the foundation class that started with The AITC Toowoomba in July 2019. Since this time Michael has treated every work experience opportunity as a job interview and work really hard to impress each employer. He booked his work experience with the intention of trying to turn it into an apprenticeship and it is paying off to...day. Michael was offered multiple apprenticeships because of his hard work and had the privilege to make a choice for himself on what was the best fit for him. Well done Michael you are an example to all of the young people at The AITC, demonstrating to them the value that work experience can provide.

The group’s earnings have gone to the I’m In campaign to raise much needed funds for New Hope Cambodia. The AITC prides itself on a values-based education and it’s clear that these young people have great character in spades.
