12.01.2022 Cash flow assistance for businesses The Australian Government is supporting Australian businesses to manage cash flow challenges and retain employees during the Coronavirus health crisis. Assistance includes: Boosting cash flow for employers Helping small and medium businesses with aggregated annual turnover under $50 million to cover the costs of employee wages and salaries equal to 50 per cent of PAYG withheld for businesses that withhold tax, with a minimum of $2,000 and a... maximum of $25,000 over six months. Businesses that pay salary and wages but are not required to withhold tax will also receive the minimum payment of $2,000. This will be a tax free payment, benefiting around 690,000 businesses employing 7.8 million people. Supporting apprentices and trainees Helping businesses retain apprentices and trainees by offering a wage subsidy of 50 per cent of the apprentices or trainees wage for nine months. The subsidy of up to a maximum of $21,000, will be available to businesses employing fewer than 20 full-time employees who retain an apprentice or trainee, or, where a small business is not able to retain an apprentice, the subsidy will be available to a new employer. This will support up to 70,000 small businesses employing around 117,000 apprentices. https://treasury.gov.au/coronavirus/businesses

10.01.2022 One out of Five businesses have not registered for JobKeeper Why May 31st May Be Too Late for Many Business Owners Those that fail to make eligible payments for fortnight 3 (May 10th) and fortnight 4 (May 24th) before enrolling for JobKeeper (Deadline May 31st) may miss out on $3,000 per employee.... Why Are One in Five Business Owners Not Registering for JobKeeper? So much misunderstanding dominates this updated version available on our portal. Many Business Owners (Farmers included) are making inaccurate assumptions with regards to JobKeeper Stimulus benefits. The ABS survey of 2,014 businesses found that just 61 per cent of businesses had registered or intended to register for the JobKeeper payment scheme. Of those who did not intend to enrol, 55 per cent said it was because the business was not eligible. Less than one in 10 attributed their lack of interest in the scheme due to insufficient cash flow to continue paying staff before JobKeeper payments commenced. The misconception is that SMEs are NOT realising their entitlement opportunities and standing back, not registering. However, only about 1m workers are budgeted NOT to receive a stimulus, why are people not taking action? We believe many small business owners do not appreciate the need to receive and then spend the stimulus monies, or reinvest to inject this capital back into the economy to kick start it. 09.01.2022 ATO admin concessions for coronavirus The ATO has announced a series of administrative concessions for taxpayers impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19), including the deferral of some tax payments, quicker access to GST refunds, and options to enter low interest payment plans for existing or future tax debts. Measures to assist businesses impacted by COVID-19 include: deferring by up to four months the payment of tax amounts due through the BAS (including PAYG instalments),... income tax assessments, FBT assessments and excise; allowing businesses on a quarterly reporting cycle to opt into monthly GST reporting to get quicker access to any GST refunds; allowing businesses to vary PAYG instalment amounts to zero for the April 2020 quarter. Businesses that vary their PAYG instalment to zero can also claim a refund for any instalments made for the September 2019 and December 2019 quarters; remitting any interest and penalties, incurred on or after 23 January 2020, that have been applied to tax liabilities; and allowing affected businesses to enter into low-interest payment plans for their existing and ongoing tax liabilities. Importantly, assistance measures for taxpayers impacted by COVID-19 will not be implemented automatically by the ATO (unlike the relief measures for the 2019-20 bushfires). Therefore, anyone impacted by COVID-19 is required to contact the ATO Emergency Support Infoline (tel: 1800 806 218) when they are ready to request assistance. Once a taxpayer contacts the ATO, Mr Jordan said a support plan will be tailored for the taxpayer. https://www.ato.gov.au//Support-measures-to-assist-those-/
