22.01.2022 Council has revised its Odds and Evens watering system following community feedback. The former Odds and Evens system was introduced (last week) to ensure fairn...ess among properties, however Council has listened to the community and recognises the preference is for a system based on odd or even dates depending on your street number. Council understands this may be easier for residents to follow. What is involved in the new Odds and Evens watering system? As shown in the example below, if the street number of your property is odd (eg: 173 Smith Street), you can water on odd dates of the month, alternatively, if the street number of your property is even (eg: 22 Stuart Street), you can water on even dates. 19.01.2022 Recent rainfalls across the region have seen Khaki and Cathead weed multiplying in and around townships. Khaki weed grows into a dense ground cover-like mat wit...h hairy roots, while Cathead produces a woody sharp burr. Both weeds should be managed with chemical controls and physical removal due to their nuisance value, particularly in urban areas. Broad leaf herbicides should be applied while seeds are actively growing. Herbicides should be applied every year until the infestation is eradicated. Take care when pulling the plant out of the ground to avoid fragmenting the root which will allow new plants to grow. See more

09.01.2022 Celebrate what is great!

08.01.2022 Mudgee and Gulgong residents are permitted to return to regular water use under Level 2 Water Restrictions following last weeks advisory to limit all non-essen...tial use. Turbidity levels are continuing to decrease and over the weekend Council directed efforts to restoring Water Treatment Plant storage levels. Following storms early last week, automated turbidity monitoring detected high levels of turbidity (sediment in the water) and Council was able to take pre-emptive measures to isolate raw water pumps and manage water supplies while the turbid water passed through the catchment. However, this meant residents were asked to limit all non-essential water use to allow existing potable water supplies stored in town reservoirs to sustain water needs of Mudgee and Gulgong until the plants could once again treat river water. Councils General Manager Brad Cam thanked residents for their patience and understanding of the issue. Thank you to everyone who delayed watering their lawns and gardens and passed the information on to neighbours and friends, Mr Cam said. By conserving water and isolating raw water pumps we were able to avoid issuing a Boil Water Alert similar to that experienced in November last year. Although summer storms like those experienced over the long weekend are not unusual for the region, coupled with severe drought conditions means that bare topsoils that are usually vegetated are being washed into the river and its tributaries, leading to unusually high amounts of sediments in the river water (high turbidity). Councils water treatment plants are not designed to treat such extreme raw water conditions and these changing climatic conditions are something Council is continuously managing and responding to. Residents are now free to use water in accordance with Level 2 Water Restrictions. More information on permitted activities can be found on Councils website.
