24.01.2022 As 2020 comes creeping up on us the pressure to improve ourselves increases. Im a pessimistic optimist, I grudgingly admit to the good in others and myself If theres one thing you can commit to doing in 2020 I recommend naming how you feel and owning it without angst; get about what you need to do and want to do each day despite how you feel and roll with the disappointment and disillusionments! 2020 will be a better year for it

23.01.2022 I am probably one of the least alarmist people I know in a crisis. I am willing to admit however that a chipped nail will send me into a huge fit In the face of this Coronavirus Im torn between being non-alarmist (when this is seeming more and more like ignorance as each day unfolds) and seeming like a crazy self-sovereignty leader. At this point Im seeing the possibilities of using online/virtual meetings as a means of communication as well as that age old system of vo...ice calls for a variety of work that needs to be completed. The only thing that wont be able to be done is from a psychological perspective is standardised assessments requiring activities face to face, but I think we can work around these to complete work to an appropriate standard in the current climate. Please reach out to your providers if you need to, ask for help if you are feeling isolated or if the current circumstances have just made your cup runneth over. We are in strange times but its up to us to make it work. Take care Amanda https://zoom.us/

17.01.2022 This is overseas but is such a great idea. Under the NDIS there are so many opportunities that may previously have gone undiscovered and unexplored. As practitioners we need to encourage clients to set goals and to support them to get the funding that is reasonable and necessary to make their dreams a reality... https://www.wthr.com//doggy-daycare-run-young-adults-devel
16.01.2022 LOVING the Support Coordination recommendation and considerations for conflict of interest! This is a huge problem. I am still concerned about the transparency of businesses effectively under the same banner but hiding behind newly created companies to hide the link https://www.disabilityservicesconsulting.com.au//tune-revi

13.01.2022 A huge cheer for common sense but also a healthy dose of concern as the quagmire of consent becomes very real...lets not mention the QLD Criminal Code Act 1899 either... @scarletalliance Every Australian Counts Consentability Queensland Advocacy Incorporated - QAI https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au//the-federal-court-d/
13.01.2022 Not going to lie, this will impact on our business as we get many referrals for review assessments. Feedback from participants, their families, supports and the NDIS has been positive for our work. At the end of the day though we dont survive from assessment funding and I think the loss of choice and control to an NDIS selected provider (through tender) will be detrimental to participants outcomes.
12.01.2022 Introducing The Grove. A country retreat for participants who are plan or self-managed wanting to acces STA. We will be seeking NDIS registration for STA and it is anticipated we will have this ready to go for NDIA-managed participants by mid-2021. Taking bookings now for self and plan-managed participant stays commencing Jan 18th 2021.... In the beautiful Lockyer Valley with access to activities such as horse-riding, kayaking or SUP on Wivenhoe Dam, farm visits, bike riding on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, day trips to local attractions including Spring Bluff, Crows Nest and Fernvale, local craft markets and lots more.
11.01.2022 I was aware this had commenced on 1 October 2018 but I didnt realise this part - Traditionally therapy and nursing supports have been purchased through a participants capacity building budget. However, participants will have temporary access to claim disability-related therapy and nursing health supports from their core budget. It goes on to say - where a CB - Daily Living Skills (Therapies) budget is not available. I wonder if it also applies where the CB budget is woefully inadequate? https://www.ndis.gov.au//delivering-disability-related-hea

08.01.2022 Anyone reading this who feels that the Medicare system for access to psychology should be sustainable for providers please sign this petition. Basically in recent years the push to be Clinical Masters qualified has became a thing supported by Medicare paying the bulk bill rate of over $120 for Clinical Masters qualified psychologists vs $86 for those of us who dont have this. Now with forced bulk billing under Telehealth this is more an issue than ever before. $86 you say!... It sounds like a lot of money for an hours work but thats the only hour you get paid for, add into that the extra 60mins per client for notes and compulsory reports to GPs, outcome measure interpretations, planning for sessions per f2f session. That $86 is now $43 per hour. Then add the overheads for rent, utilities, admin staff, ongoing office expenses and well, its not pretty. Imagine also having to see 8 clients a day back to back to make ends meet, the emotional toll of that is not able to be reflected in monetary ways. So as a psychologist I rethink my plans and decide that going back to my Government job getting $56 an hour is a brilliant idea. Imagine working 38 hours a week (20 percent of my time being considered downtime for toilet breaks, liaison with colleagues etc.) and being buffered by a frontline system that tells me that I can only do what I can do and gives me permission to walk away on Friday at 4:30pm and not think about my clients again until Monday at 8:30am! Finally, its important to realise that a Clinical Masters trained psychologist isnt a guarantee of quality. Someone who finished school and then embarked on their 8 years of full-time study, supervised placements and registrar placement is considered by Medicare on their first day of work post endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist, to be more capable of good service delivery (reflected by how much they get paid) than anyone else regardless of their years of experience or other qualifications. Finding a good psychologist in private practice is near on impossible. Its about to get way harder.
07.01.2022 We need to listen more and promote self-advocacy in the work we do.

06.01.2022 Sometimes its the act of enjoying the moment that can bring us calm and joy.
04.01.2022 Reflections I have been battling and failing at times with the desire to say nasty things to people both online and off. In reflection Ive reacted because of my own fear and anxiety about what is happening. My threshold of tolerance has lowered rather significantly because of this. It doesnt excuse bad behaviour but sometimes it helps if we can understand whats driving it. With this knowledge Im able to go back to those Ive lost it at and apologise - sorry I just brain farted all over you, Im just really worried and instead of saying that I got angry
