24.01.2022 ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF WOOL // On the 5th August 1920, AJ & PA McBride Ltd was born. Albert James (AJ) McBride, and his oldest son, Philip Albert (PA) McBride started the family company and today with over 100 shareholders, all being descendants of the founding fathers, and 80 employees, the company has weathered its fair share of storms but has also enjoyed great success.... The company values as it was then, still stands strong today. Its about family and fibre. On this momentous anniversary we thank all of our employees, past and present, who have contributed to our longevity, our suppliers, and customers. We thank all past and present board members for their guidance and leadership and warmly thank our shareholders for their unwavering support. Happy birthday to us! #mcbride #familyandfibre #100yearsyoung

24.01.2022 ‘WAY BACK WHEN’ WEDNESDAY // During WWI, McBride gifted an ambulance to the war effort. It was reported that the family’s patriarch, ‘RJM’ donated more than $4.5million (in today’s money) in the last decade of his life.... In 1921, hIs obituary read: ‘Mr. McBride was a man of remarkable energy, and retained all his faculties right up to the time of his death. His benefactions were many and most liberal, and it is doubtful if even he had the slightest idea as to how much money or sympathy he freely gave to worthy causes, secular and religious.’ Over the past 100 years, we have strived to continue this legacy and it remains one of our important company values, donating annually to many local organisations within the communities we are a part of, or to those organisations providing services to rural and regional areas. #mcbride #familyandfibre

19.01.2022 BRAEMAR STATION // In 1902, AJ McBride purchased Faraway Station from his father, RJM. Paying 7000 for the lease and stock, the property would be the foundation stone of AJs pastoral empire. The adjoining Braemar Station was purchased in 1907 making the overall land size 131,210 Hectares, and would become the main station between the two.... 17.01.2022 Our local newspaper, The Southern Argus, has a great weekly segment showing snippets from the Argus from years gone by. A few weeks ago Bleasdale was mentioned... and it brought to our attention that our Big Red Gum Vat recently celebrated its 50th birthday! All the red gum vats at Bleasdale are unique in height and capacity - all determined by the size of the tree they were made from. What a beast of a tree this one must have been! The third picture shows an example of the invitations that were sent out to mark the occasion - every one hand painted by Mickie Clifford who was a 4th Generation Potts Family member and worked at Bleasdale for a casual 53 years! @ Langhorne Creek, South Australia

12.01.2022 WILGENA // Purchased for 18,000, on the 27th August 1923, Wilgena Station joined the family portfolio. With 5 shillings in his pocket, he made his way to Burra to work in the copper mines.... His career in the mine was short lived and before long he was working the land, purchasing his first property, The Gums in 1859. It was here he raised his 11 children, including the 7th born, Albert James (AJ). #McBride #familyandfibre #100yearsyoung #rememberingourstory #week1
