22.01.2022 Interesting thought.... last week I quoted a potential client to put together a CV - he hadn't updated his in over 20 years... When he came back to me- he negotiated... which is not bad thing; Im always up for saving a buck or two. However, what he came back with was less than 10% of what I had quoted for the service. Here is the thing...... Although it may take me only a couple of hours to produce a high quality document that is polished and powerful - the reason I can do this is because of the years and years of experience I have had, and the countless professional and personal development courses and qualifications I have paid for, attended in my own time, and practiced the skills over and over again. When you are seeking professional expertise - you are not necessarily paying for the hour or two 'right here, right now'... you are paying for the experience and skills that have likely been honed and developed over years and years, late nights, long days of study, challenging work situations and so on. Value yourself enough, and value the professionals you engage to pay for the services that are going to get you to where you want to be. Remember the old adage 'you get what you pay for'. Happy Tuesday peeps xo

15.01.2022 I had an interesting experience recently... I moved last year to a fairly affluent area of Sydney. For the most part I haven’t experienced any snobbery or well-to-do-ness. At the dog park (social distancing) in the midst of people losing jobs, not being able to pay rent, wondering where their next meal is coming from - I was included in a general convo amongst some of the pupper mums and dads. It was interesting to see the vastly different perspectives. Q: What have you done ...to get by when times have been tough? For me... these things have included cleaning and working in a caravan park (pretty gross), working in a fruit shop, making coffees on a freezing Sunday morning on local sports fields, working at an outlet centre for $25 an hour.... and lots of other examples. I may get crucified for saying this - but there ARE jobs out there. It just depends on what you are willing to do to get by. I have seen call centre roles, supermarkets, cleaning and support roles in the health industry... keep an eye out on job boards, listen to the media, subscribe to recruiters. I know it can be tough - I have been there... but don’t give up. Every ‘no’ gets you closer to the ‘yes’ you are looking for.

07.01.2022 Does your CV have lines and lines of: ’I do...’ ’I have...’ ’I perform...’ ’I complete...’... Active and powerful language is an absolute must in your CV: ’Delivering...’ ’Coordinating...’ ’Managing...’ (use this one sparingly ) ’Demonstrating...’ ’Leading...’ ’Development of...’ Reach out if you need help
