15.01.2022 Tekki Kata The Tekki (Iron Horse) kata were derived from a single long kata called Naihanchi (Internal Divided Conflict) which was a part of the Shuri-te an...d Tomari-te karate styles in Okinawa and was the most basic kata before the introduction of the Pinan (Heian) kata set. Anko Itosu is credited with developing the Tekki kata, though while some believe he invented Tekki Nidan and Sandan independently of Naihanchi, the fact that only Tekki Shodan has a formal opening move may suggest that they were all based on the Okinawan form. There is further debate amongst martial arts scholars about what the pattern of the Tekki kata means, all of which follow a simple straight line in kiba-dachi (horseback stance). Some believe this represents fighting in a confined space with your back against the wall, others state that they are intended to develop skills for fighting on a boat while others still maintain that they were intended to represent fighting on horseback. However as the strength and skills developed through the Tekki kata would work for these and other situations, an outright definition is unnecessary as application of kata should work for the individual karate-ka as opposed to being an absolute. Gichin Funakoshi considered them a very important part of the Shotokan syllabus and spent three years practicing each of the Tekki kata, believing them to be difficult to master despite the fact that they are relatively short See more

Sorry for the inconvenience but the decision was made by the lack of information from Qld Health about the opening of sport facilities.( group gatherings ) We are hoping that 2021 doesn’t end up like 2020 and our lives, livelihoods and lifestyles aren’t impacted so greatly.

From the day you walked into my Dojo 20 years ago I knew you would be a handful of trouble, but you showed me the real you with your natural athletic ability and shear determination. You accomplished many great milestones in your short life, Ka...rate Champion and grading to 2nd Dan blackbelt at 16. The Chief Sensei Takahashi Shihan took a liking to you, you stood out from the rest of the students. Your life has been troubled but your character never wavered, always willing to stand up for the underdog and be big brother for your brothers and friends. Your cheeky quick wit has made you many friends that will miss you dearly, your family is now broken and are devastated but in time we will heal our souls and meet in the next life. You have left behind a legacy in your children Destiny, Zahyne and Kaeden. We will make sure they never forget who you are. The last act in your earthly realm is to help others that are suffering and for that you are an angel. This is used in principle in ...two ways: 1. when the opponent is in a standing position or 2. - during an attack - just before he completes his step and takes his stance. . The first application requires strength from the hip and needs the ability to center in order to remain compact despite the movements action. . The second application needs "only" timing. A fraction of the delay makes the technique completely ineffective and puts the user in the situation to be hit. Used too early is just as inefficient and puts the attacker in an advantageous position. . Both applications require intensive practice. See more

02.01.2022 Hai, Very poor attendance for the first night back, but for those who did it was a great informative session. The class was mainly high ranks and we began with Okinawa basics, grappling and a history lesson. Great to to see those who are genuinely interested in learning and are willing to experience a new direction. It was a fun and informative night.
