22.01.2022 I have enjoyed receiving valuable feedback from Cherry Lake residents on what they expect from their council. Many elderly residents rely on services such as Meals on Wheels, not just for the nutritious meals that are prepared and home-delivered, but also for the friendly interaction from the many volunteers who make this service a reality. From personal experience, I recall the joy it brought to my adopted grandfather to receive his weekly meals-on-wheels visitor. Some re...sidents have expressed concern that such council services are contracted out. I believe it’s important that these types of services are organised and function solely for the benefit of our long-standing residents, who have contributed over many years to the well-being of Hobsons Bay. From personal experience, our more mature residents are entitled to receive back, some measure of the contribution they have made. 21.01.2022 I have a lot of love for Brooklyn...this is my third or fourth post mentioning B-town. I have been down at the dog park in Brooklyn a couple of times to walk my Irish terrier and I play basketball there with my friends and my brother all the time. What a great area to exercise your dog. We need more of these in Cherry Lake ward and if elected, will endeavour to make sure this happens. I have met some great people at the dog park and I want to bring that community vibe to ...Hobsons Bay. From what I can see, Brooklyn has been an area which has been neglected by the Council. And politically they have fallen into a situation where neither of the two major parties helps as much as I feel like they could. Labor goes in there and takes Brooklyn for granted. Then the Liberals get in and they are really not interested because Brooklyn is a Labor seat. So, either way, Brooklyn sort of loses under both parties. And I absolutely detest this. 17.01.2022 I wouldn’t have imagined I would be where I am today for many reasons...for one, the survival rate for children aged one and under in most countries in Africa is 17%. Secondly, when I was born, ‘01, the infant mortality rate in Congo was above the overall average for Africa at 156 per 1,000. To put that into perspective, the infant mortality rate in Australia is three deaths per 1,000 births. Congo was 156 .... I had a one in six chance of dying before I turned 1-years-o...ld. When I say that I am grateful to be one of the candidates running for Hobsons Bay City Council, I well and truly mean it. I am committed to representing you. 02.01.2022 When I came to Australia, I could not speak a word of English. I spent many hours and days at the Altona and Altona North libraries reading books to learn the language one of the hardest languages in the world, to meet new people, learn how to use computers, and play video games with local primary school kids. I received so much help and guidance by the amazing librarians at both our local libraries to catch up to my peers, as I really struggled with the language barrier. Pe...ople may take our libraries for granted or don't even use them but they are an important part of our community. If elected to Cherry Lake ward at the Hobsons Bay council election, I will make sure we upgrade the library collections but also move to e-books because libraries have had at least to comprehend, if not become a key node within, evolving systems of media production and distribution. I would also help our libraries become opportunity institutions, opening doors to, and for, the disenfranchised. People turn to libraries to access the internet, take crafting classes, get help with a resumé or job search, and seek referrals to other community resources.
