20.01.2022 Hello rose lovers, do apologies for not posting for a while. Lost my lovely father just recently and a few family members during Covid lockdown last year. I know it has been hard for everyone else across the world, we all will get through this. My thoughts and prayers goes to you all. I like to share a story with you how I became obsessed with roses. We moved to Derrimut in 2007, right in the middle of a drought. At the time, we remember everyone planting drought-tolerant pla...nts like yuccas and other succulents. For those that don’t have a green thumb it’s the perfect garden, but it wasn’t a garden that you wanted to hang out in. There was no wow factor. Once the water restrictions were scaled back in 2012, we decided it was the perfect time to make changes to our garden and it all started with ten 3ft standard roses. Not knowing much about roses at the time, there were a couple of mishaps, including losing a rose to the playful jaws of our new puppy. I had a general idea about pruning, but I wasn’t sure if what I was doing was correct. That’s when I attend a pruning demonstrations by The Rose Society of Victoria Inc. and learned a lot including Neutrog products. As my collection grew it was becoming very time consuming, so when my wife started complaining that I was spending too much time with the roses and not enough time with her, I knew I had to change how I did things. You know how the saying goes; Happy wife, Happy life. I joined The Rose Society of Victoria Inc. and also became a volunteer at the Victoria State Rose Garden. I have since learned so much about roses through both of these organisations, from the wealth of knowledge of its members. We currently have 120 roses planted in our little suburban garden, most of them are French-bred Delbard roses locally grown by Rankin's Roses in Garfield, Victoria. I became obsessed with Delbard roses, so I had to visit Rankin's Roses When we arrived it felt like I was in heaven, walking through the roses in the field was so peaceful, colourful and all the different fragrances was mid blowing. We meet two lovely people. As years went pass our relationship grew, I have learned so much. Supported me to full fill my passion for roses. I will be forever grateful for their friendship. We since established a small home-based rose nursery called the Secret Rose Garden in Derrimut 2015. Selling Rankin's Roses, we travel to local markets and garden show events. We offer a few range of potted Delbard roses from the Painters Collection, Grand Parfum Collection, Couture Collection, Climbing Collections and Rankin’s Classic. We offer home delivery and rose pruning service. For more info visit our Facebook page Services tab or website www.secretrosegarden.com.au By following us on Facebook and Instagram www.instagram.com/secret.rose.garden you'll be kept up to date on market/show events, new release, educational information and rose care/maintenance. *Picture down below is me, loving my fertilisers.

02.01.2022 As 1st November the Victorian Government has implement a state wide ban on light weight plastic bags. In Victoria we have used over 1 billion plastic bags every year. The majority end up as litter, landfill, polluting our environment and endangering our wildlife. www.vicbagban.com.au Secret Rose Garden is proud to announce that we are PLASTIC BAG FREE. We have found an alternative earth friendly solution to help our environment and our wild life. We are so happy to use a fantastic product by BIOTUFF www.biotuff.com.au The bags are Biodegradable and compostable. Manufactured from renewable and sustainable resources. It is a plant based bag made by corn. Lets go Green & keep our globe clean....biotuff.

01.01.2022 Busy Busy, it's full on at Rankin's Roses farm right now, getting ready for 2021 planting of root stock. I truly love how things are done on Rankin's farms, its amazing. Thank you Brad Alden-Brown for sharing this with us. Do you know why this method is used on farms and what its commonly called? Its called black plastic mulch, its to conserves soil moisture by preventing it from evaporating in summer and reduce temperature. In winter it helps to keep the soil warm by sun light to encourage faster growth. Helps new root stock to develop new root system before they are budded. Also he plastic also helps with weed management.
