14.01.2022 Possible gut-brain pathways: 1. Microbes interact with immune cells in the gut, prompting the cells to make cytokines that circulate from the blood to the brain.... 2. Microbes interact with gut cells called enteroendocrine cells that produce neuroactive molecules and peptides. These molecules interact with the vagus nerve, which sends signals to the brain. 3. Microbes in the gut produce neurotransmitters and metabolites like butyrate. These circulate to the brain, where some of them are small enough to cross the blood-brain barrier, and others alter cell activity at the barrier itself. 4. In 2018 researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham reported at a meeting that they had found gut bacteria in human brain tissue. The study has not yet been published, and skeptics abound, but it suggests that microbes might somehow be making their way into the brain. Source: Adapted from Front. Integr. Neurosci. 2013, DOI: 10.3389/fnint.2013.00070.

09.01.2022 Aki’s pick me up healthy food !! Have you heard about Nigella Sativa or Black seed? Black seed (Nigella sativa ) Nigella sativa is the scientific name for a plant that goes by several other names, including: Black seed... Black cumin Black caraway Kalonji And more !! I got it myself. It looks like black sesame seeds and the texture is also like sesame seeds but it tastes much more bitter and is very aromatic. In India, dry roasted Black seed (kalonji) is used for flavouring curries, dahl, stir-fried vegetables, and even savouries such as samosa and Pappadams. I roasted this seed to sprinkle on my salad and vegetable soup. Mixing with Tahini paste is also a very good match ! Health benefit Black seed is a plant. People have used the seed to make medicine for over 2000 years ,particularly in the Middle East, India and Asia. Black seed has been widely used as lowering blood pressure, liver tonics, diuretics, digestive, anti-diarrheal, appetite stimulant, analgesics (relieve pain.), anti-bacterial, and in skin disorders ***A review on therapeutic potential of Nigella sativa: A miracle herb. (n.d.). PubMed Central (PMC). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3642442/ When I heard about this fascinating seed for the first time, I was at a medical herb seminar. They were talking about this seed (as a medical herbs) being used for supporting the elimination of parasitic worms from the gut. Now I see this seed as a food and in liquid form in every health food stores. would you like to try ??
