21.01.2022 Another of our facilities available for hire - the Young Farmers Building. This building has a lot of character and is best suited to smaller events like family gatherings, children's parties, meetings, and small classes. It is conveniently located near the playground, oval, and BBQ areas of the park. Inside, the facilities include: -Refreshments kitchenette... -50 chairs and 6 trestles (the current maximum person capacity as per COVID-19 regulations is 48). If you are not the family cook, then pop down for poffertjes, giant spring rolls, burgers, egg and bacon rolls, warm scones, sausages, sticky pork belly bahn mi, pies, twisted potatoes or everyone's favourite donuts! You could buy dinner for every night of the week here. We are staying open for our local community and our producers, but we need your help to keep us all safe. 13.01.2022 The Jack Rae Pavilion is our newest facility. A large, modern building with plenty of facilities for all your catering needs. It is best suited for larger events such as business functions, engagement parties, 21st birthday parties, and weddings. 11.01.2022 COVID UPDATE After the Government announcement yesterday we would like to update our customers and stallholders on the market status for the upcoming weeks. Sunday 25th October and November 1st we will continue as is, fresh produce and limited take away.... Sunday 8th November - fresh produce, take away, plants, fruit trees and seedlings. Sunday 15th November - outside stalls- essential and non essential. Please note that these plans may be subject to change and are dependant on Government guidelines at the time. O

07.01.2022 Here is some brief Akoonah Park history for you (information extracted from ‘Proud Achievements: A History of Akoonah Park Berwick’ written by Neil Lucas): For many thousands of years the site was used by the Bunurong and Wurundjeri peoples. The area provided many food sources, including freshwater mussels, small animals, vegetables, and was also well-sheltered by eucalypts. Artefacts including stone axes and middens have been found adjacent to the creek. After European colo...nisation, the site was reserved for cricket ground and recreation in 1872, and for decades, was not significantly used or developed. It was illegally occupied by wattle and daub huts, and for 25 years, an illegitimate animal pound operated. In 1951, a reserve was temporarily approved by the government and a committee of management was appointed. In 1959, on suggestion of committee member Claude Harris, the reserve’s name was changed from Berwick Reserve to Akoonah Park. Akoonah means running/flowing water in the language of the traditional land owners. What an interesting history!
