16.01.2022 FINGER PICKING STYLES Here’s a quick 10minute tutorial you might find helpful with a little extra information.

13.01.2022 EXPLORING THE C MAJOR SCALE Today I want to help you add to your knowledge of chords and fill-in the gaps by using notes from the C major scale, to make a pleasant sounding accompaniment. You can experiment with different chord progressions using the 7 chords of the scale C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am and B diminished, but try choosing the easy chords first, such as C and Em to help you find the melodic links back and forth. Then try adding the F chord and play C, F, G, C. Then you can... try expanding the melodic links by finding the notes within the C major scale to link F back to G and F to C and so on. If you keep it simple to begin with, you will probably have more luck choosing the right notes and these notes should stay in your ‘muscle memory’ and, from there, you can develop a repertoire of ‘licks’ around the basic chords using your knowledge of the C scale at the 7,8,9,10 fret position. This exercise should help you cement the C scale in your memory at the same time as learning alternative chord positions and you can keep adding alternate chord progressions such as C, Am, Dm, G7 and C, G, Am, F to hear familiar sounding melodies which you can then explore further. This should help you advance your familiarity on the fretboard and, best of all, these new skills are transferable to others keys. So this should really help you develop as a guitarist and musician. 08.01.2022 HOW TO PLAY HEROES BY DAVID BOWIE David Robert Jones changed his surname to ‘David Bowie’ after releasing 3 albums and his music career really took off as soon as he stopped being himself. Known for his character creations and chameleon like persona, Bowie became Ziggy Stardust in 1967 and went on to sell millions of albums across a career that made him one of the most influential musicians of the modern pop era. Bowie died in New York in 2016 aged just 69 years, but he beg...an his career the year I was born in 1963 and Bowie was really my first music hero, back when I was 15yo. That’s the same age Bowie was when he formed his first band called the Konrads. I put his posters on my walls and I listened to his music endlessly admiring the imagery and mastery of his music. So to kick start my new page, I’m excited to present this quick guitar tutorial, focusing on the signature riff of my favourite Bowie song, Heroes. I’ll go through the basic chords and offer some tips to help you learn how to play it fairly quickly. Thanks to Neil Finn for performing this song during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown recently and to my friend Jason for inspiring me to go ahead and make this tute video! Enjoy! See more
