24.01.2022 Gareth Oliver Assistant Group Leader, Birkdale Scout Group Meet our flamboyant narrator Abbalonia. Gareth says he has had so much fun developing this character because he has the best dad jokes. Listen out for them during the show and make sure you groan loudly!. Gareths first performance experience was at school (that was a long time ago, in a country far far away cue Star Wars theme music). During his senior secondary years he performed in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’ and ‘Hello Dolly’ (he claims he can still remember most of the words to the title song but just don’t ask him to sing Louis Armstrong style). In more recent history he has performed in the 2017 season of Rochedale Revue and the 2018 season of Redlands Revue, assisted backstage in the 2019 season of Rochedale Revue and volunteered for a performing arts activity during the 2018 QLD Cuboree. Although he joined the Scouting movement as the new comer, the parent who was asked to help because his children were youth members Gareth then found himself having so much fun he decided to stay after they moved on. If he couldn’t be onstage then he would rather be underwater and he is passionate about bringing SCUBA diving to Scouting as part of the introduction of SCUBA to the Adventurous Activities Program. His biggest reward from Scouting has been seeing first-hand the positive impact that Scouting and Guiding has on young people. Gareth says - my son recently returned to Scouting as a Rover after a short break, and my daughter recently changed from scouting to become a Guide, and both are loving it! Seeing how they have both grown individually, and as members of their local community fills my heart with reassurance for their future, and that of our world. I have huge respect for all our Leaders who invest their time, effort, and energy, into our young people - I'm a firm believer in the old saying 'it takes village to raise children'. 11.01.2022 Meet our first cast member to have his name up in lights!! JAKE GOODALL Cast in the role of Animosities (The King) in Aladdin Trouble we asked Jake to share some details with us so we could all get to know him a bit better. ... Jake is currently a Rover and Assistant Venturer Leader at Ashmore Scout Group on the Gold Coast. He has had extensive experience both on and off the stage in a multitude of roles, in his past schooling as well as currently in many Gold Coast community theatres. His most memorable moment on stage was when he played the 'Guard' in his schools production of The Wizard of Oz and he was lucky enough to lead the tap section in the 'Merry Old Land Of Oz.' He has enjoyed many scouting experiences such as being able to represent the youth body at many region and state levels and being on many different councils. Here’s two things he thinks you, the audience should know, he has had very minimal vocal training and once you get to know him you will realise he is an insane goofball!
