25.01.2022 1803 update problems so far: Each topic is a different pc.. 1. no keyboard or HID devices work 2. Networking shut down 3. icons on screen all greyed out due to loss of link to actual .exe files 4. Machine wanting to install windows as if new - all data lost... 5. Cannot read hard drive - Nor can a Linux computer as it thinks windows is in hibernation 6. Drivers totally missing, no network, emails missing IE: Data files is MISSING. After reinstalling w10 from scratch with the 1803 update included, everything seems to be running smooth and even a bit faster. The problem is, it cannot update existing versions without weird issues. See more

22.01.2022 From press release: OPTUS SCAM ALERT! Emails claiming to be from Optus are circulating. They want your credit card information for what is claimed to be an unpaid bill. The ACMA has been receiving reports about emails with the subject line ‘We are unable to process your last payment’. The fake emails are sophisticated and use a web address that looks like the real Optus website. The email contains a link to a fake ‘pay your bill’ page, which then asks for your credit card details. The fake email and payment form are cunningly crafted to trick people. It’s important you check the legitimacy of email links to protect your personal informationuse contact details you find through a legitimate source and not those contained in the suspicious message. If you receive this scam email, delete it immediately.
20.01.2022 Microsoft w10 update 1803 is problematic. problems experienced today were to roll back to the previous update to allow an AverMedia TV card to work again. Totally stopped connectivity with some Motel Software causing workstations not to be able to connect to in-house servers - Affected many motels world wide. On update roll back all HID devices stop working and a windows reinstall is required. Advised by international IT Dept not to install 1803 when reloading. Long night ahead.
17.01.2022 BACKUPS. I often get asked to back up data from pc/laptop to an external hard drive. Good idea, as you cannot have too many backups.. BUT... Then I'm asked to delete all the files off the computer. BY DOING THIS THERE IS NO BACKUP!. What happens when you drop the external drive and damage it so that no files are recoverable? So remember that 2 copies of your data is required in case one device fails. Now that the NBN is here and a lot have a fast internet connection, it i...s probably a good move to store your files in the cloud on one drive, drop box, etc. For businesses, the server should be backed up to a backup device and also to a device off site, whether it's too the cloud or to another drive that is physically taken off site in case of fire at the business.. If you have a backup drive connected to the network or via USB, remember that they are vulnerable to total loss due to ransom ware or malicious software eating away your entire digital life. Be sure to have a recent backup UNPLUGGED from your network. FYI See more
17.01.2022 Another scam to avoid folks... If you see this then delete it. :-)
13.01.2022 - And so it begins! Just to let you know these phone calls are going round. ‘Good morning, According to our system, you are likely to have been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. This means that you now need to self-isolate for 7 days and take a COVID-19 test.' 'OK. Can you tell me who that person was?' 'I'm not able to tell you that. That is confidential information.'... 'Right. Um... so ....' 'But you do need to be tested within the next 72 hours. So can I just get the best mailing address so that we can send a kit to you?' 'Ok (gives address)' 'Thank you - and I just need to take a payment card so that we can finalize this and send the kit to you.' 'Sorry - a payment card? I thought this was all free?' 'No - I'm afraid not. There is a one-off fee of $50 for the kit and test results. Could you read off the long card number for me, please, when you're ready.' 'No - that's not right. 'I'm afraid it is. Can you give me the card number please - this is very important, and there are penalties for not complying.' Puts the phone down. This is how scammers work. And vulnerable people will fall for it. Don't fall for it...! COPY and PASTE watch out See more
12.01.2022 Looks like another push for windows 10 1803 update. Had 4 computers today with issues but were fixable. COM ports missing, some USB devices not working, TV card rendered useless and one sitting on a black screen going nowhere.
11.01.2022 Another piece of ransom ware has raised it's head. Today a business with 5 computers have been trashed by 128 bit file encryption with a .nozelesn file extension. It's a new one to me and has only been about since July 2018. They ask for 625 pound to get your files back, but we all know that's not going to happen. The 6 computers all had different antivirus with the only surviving PC being protected by Avast. Kaspersky, AVG, and Microsoft Security Essentials did nothing to stop the intrusion. Apparently it happened after they opened an email from DHL, so once again be vigilant and do not open any sus emails from persons or businesses you don't deal with.
11.01.2022 7/6/2018, some Telstra/Bigpond customers may be experiencing errors when fetching emails this morning.
08.01.2022 The 'YES SCAM' may have taken another form. Normally the caller asks if you can hear them. When you say yes, they hang up. Yesterday I had a call supposedly from Yellow pages. They wanted to confirm my business name and area of coverage. At this stage I had not said the magic word. As it sounded like it was legit, I did answer yes to one question.. then they hung up.. BEWARE BUSINESSES!
08.01.2022 Will it ever end? Another scam in the form of NBN impersonators going door to door in fake uniforms. They will: Sign you up for the NBN and request a payment on the day for services that will never be connected. Request access to your computer to fix a problem with your NBN so they can install malicious software or steal your personal information. Pretend that they need to make an assessment for/install NBN equipment so they can gain access to your property and see if ...it would be a good target for a burglary. Demand payment for services in the forms of gift cards such as iTunes vouchers. NBN do not sell direct to the public - Sales only go through Internet Service Providers (ISP's) - be warned. See more
07.01.2022 8pm Brisbane time 12/12/2019. iinet have been experiencing email problems Australia wide. This has been happening since around noon today. You may get a "username or password incorrect" when trying to access via a browser, or similar messages via Outlook. Let's hope it's fixed in the morning. FYI

02.01.2022 looks like youtube is down at the moment. can't access on NBN or via mobile systems. Tried on 3 devices also. 17/10/18 12:14 pm.
02.01.2022 SCAM ALERT Scammers have set up a clone of the myGov website to trick you into sharing your login and bank account details, Stay Smart Online says. The scam... starts with a phishing email that looks like it is from Medicare, asking you to update your Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) details, so you can start receiving payments for Medicare benefits and claims. If you click on the link in the email you are taken a replica of the real myGov website. You’ll note the URL includes ‘.net’ instead of ‘.gov.au’, which is an indication the website is not a legitimate Australian Government domain! If you input your login details you are directed to also enter your secret security question and answer, before you’re taken to the fake Medicare website to input your bank account details. These emails and web pages feature myGov and Medicare design and branding, making them appear legitimate. Remember, clicking on the link and sharing your details gives these scammers access to your personal information, which they then use to steal your money and identity!
01.01.2022 Just when you get used to all the current scams, here is the latest recorded on my answering machine.. A recorded message says "Your computer has been compromised by several countries. We need to change IP addresses on your modem. Press 1 to contact our technician" DON'T DO IT!!
