21.01.2022 endometriosisaustralia 'Endometriosis made zero sense to me': what will it take to stop women suffering needlessly? Doctors behind new Australian guidelines for... treatment of the painful disease say they are hampered by a lack of quality scientific evidence. One in nine women and gender-diverse people suffer from endometriosis yet the disease is still poorly understood due to the historic bias in medical research. "It’s now absolutely clear this can’t be cured with one treatment, this is a chronic disease." Prof Jason Abbott http://bitly.ws/aDdQ This image from ohhhkaye.co.uk, an awareness and support group. 21.01.2022 We get a lot of questions regarding safety of the Covid vaccines when trying to conceive, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This is a very useful update from the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. It includes AZ, Pfizer and Moderna

20.01.2022 Something to think about

20.01.2022 Today an updated joint statement from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) and the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) came out regarding the recommendation that pregnant women should be offered the Pfizer mRNA vaccine at any stage of pregnancy. The advice until today was to wait until the post partum window unless there were medical or professional reasons to recommend vaccination. Even though it... is expected that most women infected with COVID-19 will only experience mild to moderate cold/flu like symptoms. It has now become clear that pregnant women are potentially at increased risk of more severe complications compared to the non pregnant population. The update to recommend immunisation is also based on global surveillance data from large numbers of pregnant women who have not identified any significant safety concerns with the mRNA vaccines at any stage of pregnancy. An added benefit for the baby is that in pregnancy the mother will produce antibodies against COVID-19 which will protect the baby, also after birth through breastfeeding. What about when you’re planning a pregnancy? There is no evidence of any harm to the early pregnancy, no increased risk of abnormalities in the baby or miscarriage. You do not need to delay a pregnancy after receiving the vaccine. We can imagine you may have specific questions and we are happy to discuss this at your next visit.

12.01.2022 Due to the challenges of physical distancing at a medical appointment, we have, for some time now, requested all patients attending a face to face appointment to wear a mask. It doesn't have to be a surgical mask (best to leave those to health care workers), you can instead make your own multi-layered cloth mask. This article has lots of useful information about the effectiveness of masks, plus other useful links. #covid19 #maskup https://www.abc.net.au//which-face-mask-works-bes/12494174
