17.01.2022 On Saturday night I watched my incredible wife and her group The Roslyns perform at the Vanguard This was their first show since the lockdowns in March. To say ...it was amazing doesn't so it justice because it doesn't highlight how special it was. The music industry and the arts as a whole have been hit hard by lockdowns. There's been many years she's by many musicians for an entire year of booked work being cancelled in the space of a week. The grit I've witnessed in Alanna this year is incredible. Putting together a new band, organising rehearsals around being a mum and tolerating me and my shit all along ... she deserves a medal. But this kind of dedication and drive goes unsung for artists. We just see the end result and enjoy it. This was a sold out show, lots of people missed out by leaving it to the last minute. Don't miss out next time what these girls and their amazing band deliver is exceptional.

16.01.2022 Being in the music industry from a very young age can teach you things that desperately need to be unlearned as you evolve! Shackles to break free from. Preh...istoric Ideas to leave behind. False illusions of things you believed about power, men in power, people in higher places than you. Unlearning that their thoughts or opinions were ever remotely worth more than yours. . Standing up for yourself doesnt make you argumentative. Being particular & having particular requests within your artistry, businesses & livelihood, doesnt make you high maintenance Perhaps it resembles how passionate you are. Setting boundaries & standards for people that work with you in your business, doesnt make you a hard ass Sharing your feelings or what makes you uncomfortable doesnt make you over sensitive Not willing to sweep it under the rug, doesnt make you uncooperative. Being assertive about your career choices doesnt make you selfish. It also doesnt hurt to show the people around you more gratitude, share a meaningful compliment about how something they do inspires you, vocalising Thankyou more. We dont do this enough! I have always been big on sharing meaningful compliments, we all need to try it more! lastly for my rant, and most importantly - do yourself a favour, and raise your daughters to be okay with people not liking them.
16.01.2022 Inner beauty. Strength. Self Love. Passion for what you do. Artistic Integrity. it’s AGELESS. It radiates from within. You can really tell the difference.... I didn’t grow up as a teen with social media on a smart phone, so I wasn’t conditioned with outrageous filters. Sure it was waif models in magazines, but it was different. I saw real artists emerging, that were iconic to me, that inspired me to develop myself as a songwriter. To tell the naked truth in my songs. I didn’t think it was all about looks. I thought it was about how good a songwriter you were! But ‘they’ sure did make it about the looks. That pressure was always there. Still is. I feel such empathy and contradictory emotions at times for young people growing up with the most unrealistic views of what men and women look like. Beauty is fleeting. totally frivolous. The physical kind. It can’t last. The real POISE. The real BEAUTY. is within. How we think. What we feel. The effect our music has on others. How well we can have a good laugh at ourselves. How easily or honestly we can make peace with our quirks & flaws! Following ‘current trends’ has never been too important to me. (Ha ha! Obviously) I’ve tried here and there, but I fail at it I’m glad Im at a point where I feel confident to be vintage or retro or classic or what ever... some days I still find myself a wallowing, angry rock pig, or a sad ass emo girl from the 90s On the other hand this world we live in - is a great time and place for greater acceptance amongst all preferences, all walks of life. We’re still not where we need to be, but it’s a little more open. I hope I can inspire others to adapt these principles: Leave behind the emphasis on the physical aesthetic of artists, musicians, dancers, actors, partners, husbands, wives, dates? I think making music, and listening to it, singing along with it, all has immense healing force. Even with all the talent in the world, there are so many layers to breaking the mold, pushing the envelope & seeping into peoples hearts. This year weve learnt to be authentic, smarter, stronger. & to do it for ourselves first & foremost. Thanks to everyone that has supported us on our musical adventure. You shouldnt close your eyes so m...uch alanna Youre not connecting with your audience Youre running away from it Youre way too shy to be doing this If you want to be a performer you need to be a ballsy rock chick... You need to be in peoples faces & the list goes on... Now I know, that whats WAY more important to give to your audience... is Honesty, Authenticity, The real shit. To be inside of what Im doing. I am a ballsy rock chick. I am a crooner. I am a goth. Im a sultry jazz singer. I am a folk singer. I am a country artist. I am soft and hard. & that approach takes way more courage & willpower than anything else. I work with people now that remind me as I observe their magic, regardless of opening or closing our eyes, Being present in the performance is what people want. KNOW your power. Let go. These days, Rather than framing peers as experts I accept words of impression when it resonates with me At the end of the day its all just perspective isnt it?

09.01.2022 Mental Health Awareness Month Perhaps I used to believe, many of these songs were written about shattering heartbreak. Poignant Relationships with special & irreplaceable people I didnt think I could go on without...... I think now I know, this collection of songs relates much more to some of the things you lose along the way, when you struggle. The demons you arent yet ready to meet, and sit & be with. And when youre in the midst of facing the beast, some things in your life simply fall away, with no resolution. This is a real part of it, a strengthening part. & eventually.... In the healing process we learn so much about why, how. I made this little vid with a song from my EP Titled Taboo Its called Do You Know? For those that worked with me on this EP, youll remember i needed to be as far away from other humans as possible, to record the vocals. The car felt safe. & so the story goes The good old car vocals. 08.01.2022 Is it wine o clock yet? . Last night I had a dream... That I woke up, & this ghastly situation was over. I looked outside at the beautiful view, and the stree...ts were lined with healthy content people, the young and the old. They were dressed in colourful clothing, dancing in bare feet, rejoicing to the musical beats. We had lost a lot. we had hurt a lot. And finally experienced what it feels like to lose all sense of entitlement and privilege. Everyone was helping each other with less agenda, and more compassion. We had experienced deep pain and extreme loss. Most of us were forced to stop & heal... as powerful Mother Nature stepped in to tear down life as we knew it. But then... as we danced in the street, we were more introspective. More quiet, more stable. More intuitive. We cared more, loved more. Our kids shared more awareness, more hope. We had less rage in the world. Less followers on Instagram. Less Botox. Less addictions. Less comparison, less focus on physical appearance, less fixing our faces. More obsessed with love. More capable of witnessing the supernatural. More able to see. I wrote this @ 4am when I couldnt sleep in a panic of what might happen next

Ive noticed myself at times giving precious time away all day long, to emotions that have no ad...vantages, to people who do not value my time, to inefficient habits. If we want to take back this time, we need to cut to the chase and be honest with ourselves about where the energy is flowing... its a tough realisation. Ive been struggling wi...th the placement of it, & its relevance. . But a few wise people have expressed to me that its vital to keep going... Crucial to keep sharing & making art. To continue working, building, inspiring & creating, in order to GIVE BACK to the community. . Were in ruins at the moment in AUS, everyones feelin it, near and far. Ive never really experienced anything like this in my lifetime in Australia. Im extremely fortunate... BUT well aware of it, & intrinsically grateful. .
