11.01.2022 It is with the greatest of gratitude that I was asked to create a new Mayoral Chain for the City of Ballarat Council. It was almost 6 years ago when I was asked to quote on the repair of the approx. 150 years old, 18k Gold Ballarat and Ballarat East combined, Mayoral Chain. It has come a long way since then, with the original Mayoral Chain that reflects the glorious historical beginnings and growth of Ballarat, having now been retired to the Ballarat Gold Museum. The new Mayo...ral Chain was designed in keeping with the inside row design of the retired chain I made each link solid as opposed to the hollow pieces (which is the reason for the degradation) of the retired chain to increase the longevity. The retired chain also has a treated surface that caused all the detail to have a matt finish. This new chain also has a matt finish which is in keeping with the history of Ballarat City but with a difference. The engraved detail and accents on each link are polished to reflect the modern era and bright future of the City of Ballarat and its Council. The drop (Pendant) has been designed around the centre monogram of the retired chain symbolising the city of Ballarat Council. The pendants detailed engravings and full polished is the main focus of the chain. The chains have been created in a new alloy of silver called Argentium, which is 93.5% pure silver. It has been 18ct yellow hard gold plated to also resemble the Ballarat Gold as in the retired chains. On a personal note, it was a great honour for me to become a small part of the Ballarat history. The making of the chains took me almost 3 months to complete. I would like to thank Ballarat council for the honour and privilege of being able to create a piece that will be part of their future and a continuing record of their rich history See more
