11.01.2022 The Royal Commission outlined four high-priority areas of abuse that need immediate improvement in Aged Care. These include food and nutrition, dementia care, the use of restrictive practices, and palliative care. The Morrison Government’s plan fails to comprehensively tackle these issues leaving elderly residents vulnerable. 07.01.2022 Understaffing in Australian aged care facilities is a huge concern that significantly contributes to the unacceptable standards of care in many facilities. In some instances, an alarmingly low number of personal care assistants, as little as 2-3, are available for over 90 aged care residents. 01.01.2022 The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety has recommended that a code of conduct be enforced across the aged care industry. This should be accompanied by a regulatory body with powers to investigate complaints into breaches of the Code, and to take appropriate disciplinary action (Recommendation 77). ALARM is a not-for-profit organisation who assist aged care residents seeking legal redress. We believe potential breaches of contract between aged care providers an...d their residents are serious legal issues, and is too often overlooked.
