25.01.2022 Last year I planted some Sedum Autumn Joy into this predominantly green, strappy garden. They have given the garden a bit more interest I think. #Sedum #Flowers #horticulture #contrast

25.01.2022 Planting zone prepped and soil brought in. I'm using a good quality 3 way. Nothing too rich as i'm planting natives. Now off to collect some plants. #NatureStripGardens #Naturestripplantings #Nativegardens #Aussieplants.

25.01.2022 Here it comes! Eveything is peachy! #spring #blossom #wintersend

22.01.2022 Another lovely wattle. If you need a robust hedge for a country property then Acacia paradoxa will solve your paradox. Hedge Wattle will grow to 4mx5m and has a lovely cascading habit when mature. It is a great refuge for birds and its tiny globe like flowers are a delight. #acacia #wattle #aussieplants... #hedgeplants #indigenousplants See more

21.01.2022 Nice forest habitat along the Two Bays Walk....and a Tiger snake sunning itself on the path. Very venemous but not aggressive..however give a wide berth and don't be an idiot... (protected species) #bushwalk #tigersnake #twobayswalk #morningtonpeninsula

21.01.2022 Visit to Simon Gaythorpe's lush garden in Olinda today. #perrenialplants #woodlandgardens @ Olinda, Victoria, Australia

20.01.2022 Easy Saturday night. Roast duck breast w/ginger and terriyaki/ soba noodles/chinese broccoli in oyster sauce. #homecooking #asianflavours #quickdinner #30minutemeals

20.01.2022 Scenes from Portland Botanical Gardens. A perennial border, a herb and scented sensory garden, silver beet (Swiss Chard) being used as a feature to provide texture and interest, a stunning Scabiosa 'Black knight'. Although still retaining many features from its Victorian heritage and the influence of Baron Von Mueller in its initial design the garden team here are introducing new ideas and experimenting with varied plantings. The garden is also renowned for some notable trees..., its seasonal display of Dahlias and its rose garden featuring many hybrid teas and floribunda. Worth a visit if you are down that way. #heritagegardens #botanicgardens #botanicalgardens #flowers #Scabiosa See more

19.01.2022 Small native bee (actually a wasp that has adapted to a vegetarian diet) feeding on the flower of a longnecked aeonium. A great late winter food source for pollinators. #dailygardenlife #aeonium #pollinators... #gardensforwildlife See more

17.01.2022 The power of Plecthranthus. This small site is shaded and the soil around the tree bole is shallow. Plecthranthus Nico, a useful groundcover does the trick there, whilst Plecthranthus Mona Lavender creates a colourful background. #plecthranthus #shadedsites... #shadedgardens #plantingdesign #plantdesign #horticulture @ Beaumaris, Victoria See more

17.01.2022 Underneath the Moonah trees. Melaleuca lanceolata in the Point Nepean National Park where many fine examples of this important, longlived, coastal tree can be found. Being relatively small it would be great addition to any medium to large coastal garden and provide many enviromental benefits. #coastalgardens #Moonahtrees... #treesforwildlife See more

15.01.2022 Hydrangea quercifolia foregrounds a cloud pruned Camellia sp. in one of my gardens. I love the foliage contrast and textures. Floresence on the H. quercifolia is stunning. #plantingdesign #gardendesign #alastairinglislandscapedesign

15.01.2022 Bees feeding on this old rosemary bush Rosmarinus officinalis. Another great forage plant for bees and other pollinators. 15.01.2022 Designing for a small space can pose a number of challenges. This concept for a typical townhouse garden includes a paved entertainment area, decking to create levels and multiuse spaces and limited plantings in planterboxes and a small garden bed. The tree provides seasonal shade. 14.01.2022 A couple of driveway beds and a nature strip that I designed and Installed last June. All going well. 13.01.2022 Some 3d CAD work. Need more practice! #cad #vectorworks #concept

13.01.2022 Always enjoy the flower structure on this medium wattle Acacia longifolia subsp.sophorae. Aka Coast Wattle not to be confused with the similar flower structure on Acacia oxycedrus or Spike Wattle. You can tell the difference by the spikes(ouch!) on the latter. Both these plants are excellent small bird habitat. Btw Coast wattle can become an environmental weed out if its normal habitat zone.... #acacia #wattle #aussieplants #nativeplants

12.01.2022 Surprising what you find knocking around in the back roads. Found this magnificent example of a Cape Chestnut, Calodendrum capense in the Koroit Botanic Gardens. 10.01.2022 Pegged out my planting zones prior to improving and adding soil. Council requires a 500mm no planting zone around the perimeter. I have put a pathh through the centre. Path and edges will be granitic sand. #naturestripplantings.

06.01.2022 Took a walk through Birrung Marr today. First time I have seen the experimental #WoodyMeadow planting by Melbourne Uni and Sheffield Uni. The planting is explained by the interpretive sign. The 'Bump Layer' is now well developed and there are emerging taller plants in evidence. Would be great to see more of this type of dense, programmed planting in our urban parks and gardens rather than the more open style we so often see with native planting. #shefplanting #urbanplanting... #plantingdesign #lowmaintenancegardens See more

05.01.2022 In the studio today..everyday.... Roughing out some initial planting ideas for a deeply shaded border. Got my fave Landscape graphics book. Picked it up for $1 on the NSW south coast years ago. Invaluable. Using pencil on paper is so much more conducive to creative thought than banging it into CAD..that comes later. #plantingdesign #landscapegraphics... #Handdrawn #landscapedesign See more

05.01.2022 Planted. Just 3 Myoporum.parvifolium to put in tomorrow. Then mulch. @ Beaumaris, Victoria

03.01.2022 Good morning. Iris unguicularis pops its head up. I always cut back the foliage of this flower before it starts to bloom to better see the display.

03.01.2022 Some Sedum Autumn Joy in my garden. The bees love it. #savethebees #Sedum #Autumn #Flowers

02.01.2022 Here is another great forage plant for pollinators especially bees who are attracted by the blue flower colour. Borage. I planted one Borage plant in my garden about 20 years ago. The progeny of this plant still pop up through my garden. I let them go to seed and cut them back when they are dead. They will reward by self propagating a new plant from seed wherever they fall. Great for compost. Flowers also edible and these blue gems will liven up any salad. @ Hampton, Victoria, Australia

02.01.2022 Good morning, cold day in Melbourne. #morningwalk #wintryblast #refreshing
