24.01.2022 Been a privilege.

22.01.2022 My word these GT4s have a lovely rear end.

22.01.2022 Mk5 Gti presents with intermittent cutting out, losing power. Background is that its had problem for a while and had a few parts thrown at it, one go at dealer and one somewhere else which is neither here nor there. Anyway with these issues you have to live with the car sometimes till it plays up. Broke down at 4am one morning and of all days I wasn't logging it with laptop, no multimeter or anything. Got it going after a bit of a sit. Definitely had fuel cuts before hand .... Every drive after this had the gear hooked up. Previous fitted parts were in tank fuel delivery pump , high pressure fuel pump with cam follower and ecu supply relay. Few drives later car starts to break. Took voltage readings before fuel tank control module all good at 12 volts and reading at the fuel tank pump directly. 0 volts!. The delivery pump on these run from 5 volts to 12 volts depending on requirements. With use of current flow diagram find out where the in tank control module gets its reference. Digital signal from the fuel rail pressure sensor. No codes logged as the engine ecu is pretty much doing as its told only at the wrong time. Rail sensor, not the common one on the high pressure pump. Fitted rail sensor and all is well. Tricky one to find as was nearly always operating ok when tested. Caught it whilst living with it for a while constantly monitoring it. Sometimes this is what you have to do with the intermittent faults. Feels great when you finally find it. Cheers See more

21.01.2022 Good morning dear customers, today Ill be signing final paperwork for the new workshop in Moorooka once signed Id say should be moving mid next month. Will be sure to keep you all updated. Have a great day!!!

20.01.2022 Had a Q7 in couple days ago with interior blower stopped working. Down to the fan motor going bad. Nil stock for week and pretty dear. Nearly sent it out toll part comes and noticed baby seats in the rear. So had to pull out the stops. I have mk5 golf blower motors spare so stripped out the Q7 housing, did the same to the mk5 housing. Mk5 fan body not as big so made up a sleeve. Pitched 2 holes in Q7 housing and this allows the 2 holes on fan motor body to be capsulated. Changed wiring connectors and refitted. Works perfect. You are only limited by your imagination. Difference between fitting and fixing.

20.01.2022 Ok, maybe get some popcorn as this one is a doozie. 2016 Skoda with a fine 7 speed dry clutch DSG, I say fine because when they are operating right they are lovely. This one has had a snappy gearshift complaint for thousands of ks. Dealer has updated software after update after update. So fast forward to lately and its scanned for umpteenth time and has a clutch disengaged fault. There is the trap. Not a shudder but a disengagement. Gets $2.5k clutch done and is still th...e same. Dealer says needed clutches anyway, which might be the case for mileage but not the fault. They state to follow a test plan. Now I use the same test plans but the test plan isnt driving the car. Its a great "guide" but not always a given. Dealer then washes hands. So I tackle it. Now unfortunately I have to start from scratch just in case. Software all good. Mechatronics oil wasnt pretty colour and not at the correct level. Both vital. Mechatronics by rights doesnt get serviced. Thats fair enough and as per book. Replenished oil to the spec and test, adapt etc. Lots better but still not right. Im at the stage now suspecting pressure bypass in the clutch piston sleeve area. The part that operates the clutches wears too! Swap over mech with a good low k mech. Adapt and code. Result- mint, smooth gearshift. Roadtesyed for many kilometers in suburban streets for many many gearshifts. Drives very nice. Its a surprisingly good box when right. See more

20.01.2022 Excellent progress made. Hoists installed. Next few days setting up. Very much hoping to be open by Monday . Will keep you all posted

19.01.2022 New workshop lease in my paws. .

19.01.2022 After the long wait for some K Jetronic parts from the UK finally have this Mk1 Cabriolet up and running. Geez it had been messed with big time. Anyone who knows KJet knows that the CO screw only gets turned a fraction during adjustments. This hadn't been the case with this, ign timing a mile out and 4 injectors dribbling wetting the plugs. Anyway dusted off the K jet fuel pressure equipment, and got the CO machine out, timing light and off to work we go. Running not bad really.

18.01.2022 You cant Google experience.

17.01.2022 Acquired this 1.6 petrol manual caddy a while back to add to the camper fleet. It had a destroyed gearbox and engine is questionable. So as Im moving in going though parts to see what I have (LOTS!!!) and have 1.9TDi 5 speed manual from a 9N3 polo. Also had lines and diesel tank left over from my VR6 caddy that used to be diesel. So in process of fettling this into the caddy. Having to now treat it like a Polo in the engine bay and both Polo and caddy diesels run different systems like ECU etc EDC15 and EDC16. So its tank , loom , clock , even gear shift cables are different. Not going to lie but the VR6 has been easier so far lol. Keeps you on your toes. VW guys will notice Polo intercooler . Ps this is after hrs. stay well, stay safe

16.01.2022 Checked a Passat for problems with number plate lights. Found these. Bigger bulbs shoehorned in, shell be right. No she wont be right.

16.01.2022 Got some weird looks today whilst out diagnosing a troublesome noise with multipoint stethoscope. some fella at the lights asks whats with all the cables? Tuning in to some German engineering going bad I was

15.01.2022 Definitely got a fair bit on

15.01.2022 Whilst doing the move Ive realised I have everything I need to go widetrack and this will be the result. Nice aggressive stance

15.01.2022 Mk2 Gti had some more love, just fitted VR6 rear brakes and new bearings. Nicely greased up and ready. Nearly all widetracked. Clutch master and line to be done, then flock the dash before reinstalling.

14.01.2022 Newlywed an enroute to Cairns. Loss of a couple of gears and guzzling fuel. Rebushed the linkages and gearstick slippers. Gears all good. Check engine for cause of bad consumption. Not many recorded faults with having basic ECU. It did pick up map sensor out of range. Normally on these means a new map sensor in the ECU but before calling that I checked vac lines. Split line at fuel pressure reg. Repair line. Recheck of live data from ECU and found engine temp sensor reading -30. Therefore adds fuel for the temp recorded. Fit new temp sensor and all sorted. So with bad temp sensor and fuel pressure reg on high due to no vac and map sensor going haywire its hard to believe it ran at all. It drove from Sydney like this!!!. Have since heard from the couple and the wee van is plugging along just nicely

13.01.2022 Heaps more diagnostic jobs coming in since moving to new shop which is great, being my jam and all. Good one yesterday new beetle as in 2012 circa. Overboost condition. Watergate staying closed. Vacuum connection on N75 had prior repair. Glued up . Thats fine but too much glue sealed off the connection.

13.01.2022 Another shop tried to diagnose steering wobble. They threw bushes at it, blamed wheels and were going to fit engine mounts. If you dont know how things work how do you know when its wrong? Drove this thing about 200m and couldnt believe it. Broken inner tripod. Rebuilt it and as good as gold. Its a worry. Good money bring spent at these places

12.01.2022 Feeling nostalgic sorting out the cabinet

12.01.2022 Ive seen many faulty dual mass flywheels. This one will need surgical removal

10.01.2022 No wonder the Motor trade gets a bad wrap, and we get tarred with the same brush. Had to walk away from one last week to recentre myself, the stuff I found just had me like omg. I hate to say it, Ill never drop names or anything I really can only wish things get better. We are not perfect granted but a certain level of care, or certain level of quality control is reqd. Sorry had to vent slightly. I just work myself so unless I talk to the wall or take it home with me its here. Just disgusted at the premium charged for basement level work. Anyway all good

10.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all my customers and friends. Thank you for the continued support of this one man band. I look forward to doing it all again next year . Have a safe and happy break.

10.01.2022 I use the saying for shops throwing parts at things as "Shotgun Diagnostics " fire 12 bullets 1 will hit. Unfortunately chamber was emptied on this Tiguan. Noise on acceleration. $$$$$$ thrown at it with no fix. So checked noise. Was definitely coming from tunnel area thinking propshaft area. On inspection find donut rubbing on the sway bar. Sway bar is designed to cater for the propshaft donut. So why is it hitting? Witness marks on the sway bar shows its been shunted to the right about 25mm. Would have been shunted with prior damage. Drop subframe and find spare parts sticker on subframe. So definite prior damage. Sway bar cradles are part of this sway bar so marked 25mm per side and knock the cradles over to marks. Rebuild and test. Nice quiet Tiguan. Very Happy client.

10.01.2022 The Lion Rampant is up again. Coming along nicely. Ready to rock and roll. Thank you so much for your patience. Its been hard yakka thats for sure. Now ready to take bookings. This week already filled. Couple of tow trucks dropped off some Monday morning patients.

10.01.2022 Anyone for a game of Golf?

10.01.2022 Have had these old lockers for a while, so as the workshop comes together Im turning these lockers into something a bit interesting. Firstly they get the rat look with rust effect paint

08.01.2022 Been off sick all week. Thanks dear customers for your patience. Much appreciated. In for a bit of catch up .

08.01.2022 Id like to share another reason why I mention about the over reliance on scanners these days. 2014 Touareg complaint was poor radio reception and at same time RF signal for key remotes very poor. Car had an accident and was damaged right rear 1/4. After incident everything still worked. Then after panel Shop repair complaint arises hint hint hint. Car goes to dealer and is scanned. No faults logged. Ok sir there is nothing wrong with your car and for the key remotes go fit s...ome batteries. Unconvinced the car comes for 2nd opinion as insurance is involved. I scanned it of course and agree no faults logged but also realise the car has a problem. Use the information given. It was ok till repaired. Remove quarter trims and check connections for antenna boosters. Touareg has 8!!! Found soldered connection broken and sikaflexed over by glass installer. Repair solder and test. Remotes now works at least 20m away. Guess what? Radio works as it should. See more

06.01.2022 Another A4 BCM bites the dust due to clogged up plenum chamber drains being blocked. You can just see the water marks on that big grommet. Water was still sitting flush with battery base Floor plan like a fish tank. Couple of holes drilled to drain. Luckily the multiplies were still submerged therefore no oxidation. Easier sorted than wet left to dry.

06.01.2022 Dear customers. As a one man band I am still operating as normal, as normal as can be. I only have me in the workshop. I will exercise the distance reqd . I wear nitrile gloves and steering wheel cover that gets sanitised every time. On the bright side I move premises in couple of weeks and should see minimal disruption if we are still in lockdown however that may look then. Thank you all, stay safe, hydrated and positive. We can get through this. I appreciate you all. Jimmy. Tech, diagnostician and genuine.

06.01.2022 Theres more than one reason a timing belt needs replacing on time. The hydraulic tensioner failed on this Audi and pretty much should have been end of. It drove to me. Big save. This client needs to buy a lotto ticket. Teeth of the belt polished the engine mount

05.01.2022 Old Mantra Ive used in the past and continue to do so- Dont poke and hope, Scan, Smoke and Scope.

05.01.2022 We hear ECUs being blamed a lot for hard to find issues especially when a few parts have been fitted. This Mk6 had a running rich issue. Firstly the K and N pod filter was clogged. Honestly would have been years since it been looked at. Of course I got excited by this, reason being a clogged air filter isn't going to help fuel trims one bit. Reset fuel trims with clean filter. All good till another scan reveals rich code creeping in again. Read the fuel trims and ecu trimmin...g down big time. Tested the suspects like fuel in the oil, bad MAF etc and all checking out. So thinking about it had to be getting rich somehow. Decided to clamp off the purge canister line connected to the purge valve and as i was standing there the trims start tumbling. Valve not closing completely and letting fuel vapour through well before the ecu demanded it. New valve and good as gold. Again the ecu was only doing what it was told See more

04.01.2022 Wowsers, finally after 6 years of waiting my Fuchs sign arrives. To be honest the timing is right

04.01.2022 Due to unforseen circumstances completely out of my control Ill be moving premises in near future. Looking to have minimum disruption and be in another convenient location , and be there for the long term . Been nice and busy and its been great being knee deep in thick of it. Looking forward to more of it. Will be sure to keep you updated . Until then be business as usual in current location.

04.01.2022 Another smoke test, another rear main.

03.01.2022 Mk6 Golf Tsi presents with no drive. Gearshift control module failed. All comes as one unit including cable shift etc. For a new one you would have to sell a major organ. Limited stock used. So after a think remembered I had a 6R polo shift mechanism. Polo cables are shorter and mechanism bolt pattern is different. Nothing to lose but pull them apart. Modules are identical so fettled the Polo one into the Golf. Golf drives away happy

03.01.2022 Sneak peak of new Alba residence before the move next month

03.01.2022 Mk7 Gti coolant ingress in circuut board of thermostat. So close to bricking the engine ecu. Happy to say it didn't.

02.01.2022 DPF failure without warning. Fully blocked. Only start with o2 sensor out. There is normally some kind of warning when the dpf is sooting up. Failed regens and power loss. Turns out this Tdi has a belly full of petrol. Turned honeycomb to lava and outlet blocked.

02.01.2022 Signs all up. Its coming together nicely shop address is - Shop 2/12 Ellen st Moorooka.
