19.01.2022 MEASLES ALERT SUNSHINE COAST Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) is responding to a new notification of measles in an adult female, who spent time in the Mooloolaba Wharf precinct while infectious. The patient was unknowingly infectious while visiting the Mooloolaba Wharf precinct on 23 January between 7pm and 9 pm.... Members of the public who were in these areas, on this date, need to be alert for symptoms of measles for the next three weeks. The symptoms usually start around 10 days after contact with the infectious person, but is known to occur between seven and 18 days after contact. The initial symptoms of measles include fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore and red eyes. This is followed a few days later by a blotchy, red rash. The rash often starts on the face then becomes widespread over the body. Contact your GP or call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for more information. If you have any of the measles symptoms contact your GP and remember it is VERY important to call the medical practice first if you think you might have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid you spreading it to others. Anyone born after 1965 who was in these areas and who has not been fully vaccinated against measles (two doses of MMR) should contact their GP. Bowel cancer Affects both men and women, and Australians have one of the highest incidences of bowel cancer in the world at approximately 1 in 13 Australians by the age of 85. Not only is it common, but bowel cancer is Australia's second most deadly form of cancer. The risks for bowel cancer increase significantly from age 50,... In the early stages, bowel cancer shows limited signs or symptoms, which is why patients with a family history should be screened regularly as recommended by your GP. As the cancer progresses, signs to look out for are blood in your stool, persistant changes in bowel habbit, change in stool shape, rectal pain, abdominal pain, abdominal swelling and/or anaemia. If detected early, bowel cancer can be successfully treated.

05.01.2022 There has been a second novel coronavirus case confirmed in Queensland. A 42 year old woman, a Chinese national from Wuhan (Hubei Province), has been confirmed to have novel coronavirus. The woman was a member of the tour group travelling with the 44 year old man confirmed with coronavirus on 29 January 2020.... The woman is currently isolated in the Gold Coast University Hospital, and is stable. Contact tracing is underway, which will allow us to provide information to guests of the hotel this group was staying in, and to other passengers on Tigerair flight #TT566 from Melbourne to the Gold Coast on 27 January 2020. Any passengers who were on this flight should call 13HEALTH for advice. Well provide more information as soon as it is available. 02.01.2022 Introducing Dr Ai-Ling lee MBBS (UQ), FRACGP, BMedSc (Hon) Dr. Ai-Ling Lee completed her medical degree at UQ, then headed up north to the Townsville Hospital to start her medical career in 2008. There, she met her husband, Paul and the couple eventually moved to Coonabarabran in NSW where she commenced her GP training. She completed her FRACGP (GP specialist fellowship) in 2013, and practiced in the cities of Orange and Newcastle before moving back north to Brisbane to be ...closer to family. Dr. Lees areas of special interest within General Practice include skin checks and minor surgical procedures, mental health, womens reproductive and sexual health, pain management, chronic disease management, occupational health, persons with special needs / disability and rural healthcare. Because of her background and childhood growing up in Malaysia, Ai-Ling is fluent in English, Mandarin and Malay; and can communicate in a limited capacity in Cantonese. She has experience with complex patients with multiple health conditions / special requirements (eg refugees, specific cultural backgrounds, disability support), and also has looked after patients with more extensive health requirements / multiple medical conditions requiring management. Dr Lee also provides advice and services relating to Implanon procedures and also mirena removal, cervical (pap) smears, ear canal cleaning and micro-suction, minor skin surgery (including ingrown toenail removal) & cryotherapy, iron infusions, steroid injections into joints (knee, shoulder, foot plantar fascia only), and spirometry.
