13.01.2022 Linger in the Warmth of picturesque gardens at Patrick Taylor Cottage, the oldest surviving dwelling in Western Australia, having been built in 1832 by the Morley Brothers. The cottage officially entered into the Australian Register of Heritage Places on a permanent basis in June 2009 and is of significant national historical importance, dating from the States first 10 years of European settlement. It is also a unique example of a building technique which has all but disap...peared in Australia. The cottage's original timber shingle roof remains intact, but was overlaid with corrugated iron late last century. This growth and adaption of the original building by subsequent inhabitants contributes to its uniqueness. It was purchased by Patrick Taylor in July 1834, and today, it boasts and 11 room wattle and daub cottage. The cottage now displays stunning artifacts from Albanys history and beyond, as well as in-depth information on Patrick Taylor and early Albany residents, surrounded by a beautiful cottage garden next to the Duke Street Park. * Self-guided tour, unless booked by prior arrangement. * Wheelchair access to most areas * Postcards and souvenirs * Books of historical interest for sale * Picturesque gardens What visitors are saying "Great for a better understanding of local history." "The house was in great condition, it had a beautiful garden and lots of historic items inside." "These guys are doing an excellent job of preserving the past." https://historicalbany.com.au/attra/patrick-taylor-cottage/
