25.01.2022 Next week is the start of SPRING. Drop Bears wake from hibernation and the magpies are cranky. Good luck out there, Aussies. If you don’t know about Drop Bears, here’s a link on our Mythic Australia website: https://mythicaustralia.com/drop-bear/
24.01.2022 Heading home from a fantastic weekend away at Dookening Training Area. Some found it all a bit too much, others still had energy to burn. I'm sure they'll all sleep well tonight.
24.01.2022 We have been back seven weeks now and well in to our regular Wednesday night training. After opening Parade and dress inspection, it was in the classroom for lessons. We even had time to celebrate a birthday. Thanks to Mrs Clark for the fantastic cup cakes. Even had personalised dog tags on them. #armycadets #aac #505ACU #albanywa
24.01.2022 The Adventure Training Award is a series of field activities that are undertaken by senior cadets of the Australian Army Cadets. The reward, should the cadets successfully complete the course, will be the prized boomerang and torch Adventure Training Award badge, the highest accolade they can wear on their uniform.
24.01.2022 WA AAC Brigade Music Course (05 10 October 2020). Traditionally the Brigade Music Course has been conducted during AFX, however, COVID-19 has interrupted the ...normal flow of events and the only two courses conducted around the 2020 AFX dates were the Senior Leaders Course and the Brigade Music Course. This year there were 4 drummers and 6 Pipers on the Course who were supported by Unit staff and Senior Cadets from the Drums and Pipes. The course this year was shortened by two days but that didn’t curb the enthusiasm or deter the resolve of the participants in achieving the end goals of the course. Memorising beats/tunes and then attempting to master the instrument and then combining the two is always the biggest hurdle, at the best of times, but this was achieved exceptionally well by all participants who exceeded the plan for learning and getting the most out of the time spent achieving which was a very pleasing aspect of the course. Before finishing the course the participants welcomed their parents to the Music Centre for a morning tea, and, as luck would have it, the 16 Btn RWAR Pipes and Drums was practising nearby and so it presented an opportunity for the two bands to combine to present a short concert which also provided a focus for the course participants to show off their achievements following the week’s intense practise. A truly outstanding outcome for everyone and needless to say there were some very happy drummers and pipers who departed the course but not before they realised they have all achieved a wonderful result for themselves in such a short time. Congratulations all, you were fantastic. See more

17.01.2022 Nine young women recently graduated from the Army Cadets program at Banksia Hill Detention Centre. This graduating class was just the second all female cadet cl...ass. The program offers the young people a hands on learning environment. Coordinator of Youth Custodial and Re-entry Programs and Services Ben said it was a great opportunity for girls at the facility. "They develop skills and learn discipline, commitment, teamwork, self-determination, respect, confidence, trust, leadership, resilience and courage," he said. The program engages in a variety of theory, practical, physical and skills-based objectives aligned to the Australian Army Cadets. This includes drill (marching, forming ranks, dress and bearing, self-awareness), reading maps, preparing uniforms and equipment for parade, radio and verbal communication, team building exercises, camouflage and concealment, field survival (preparing sleeping areas, field equipment and movements), and learning the history of the AAC and the Australian Army.

10.01.2022 Drive a Bushmaster in the Army Reserve Jobs are available to become a Cavalry Scout in A Squadron, 10th Light Horse Regiment. The mainstay of the squadron’s veh...icle fleet is the Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle (PMV). To drive this 12.5 tonne battle proven machine, Troopers complete a three week drivers' course conducted at Bindoon Military Training Area. Driving through difficult terrain, operating pintle mounted machine guns from a PMV, formation driving, as well as night driving whilst wearing night vision googles (NVG) are only a handful of the skills drivers became qualified in during their extensive training course. The Bushmaster is a blast resistant, cross-country, troop carrier designed to transport troops rapidly on and off-road in combat. It can carry up to nine soldiers (plus crew) and their equipment for up to three days before being re-supplied. The Bindoon Training Area provides a variety of bushland and complex terrain suitable to train PMV drivers. The facilities at Bindoon give 13th Brigade the capability to conduct PMV courses, close to where the troop are based. 07.01.2022 As a 17-year-old army recruit, Corporal Daniel Keighran VC would stand to attention outside his room each morning and stare at the portrait of Albert Jacka, one... of Australia’s most famous Victoria Cross recipients from the First World War. I have a vivid memory of getting off the bus at Kapooka on my first day in the Australian Army and being assigned to 32 Platoon amid much yelling and screaming, he said. In our barracks was the Hallway of Valour, funnily enough, so every morning when we’d run into Hallway 32, with your bed sheet over your shoulder, there was Albert Jacka across from me, and I would stand there reading and rereading his citation, or the others around it, as we were doing roll call and I was waiting to hear my number yelled out. Little could he have imagined that one day his photograph would appear alongside that of Albert Jacka’s. But that’s exactly what happened. Ten years ago, on 24 August 2010, Daniel repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire during a three-hour battle in the village of Derapet in Afghanistan, identifying targets and drawing fire away from his mates who were trying to save the life of a mortally wounded comrade. For his actions that day, Daniel became the 99th Australian to be awarded the Victoria Cross, the pre-eminent award for acts of bravery in wartime and Australia’s highest military honour. I look back and think I was just doing my job that day, he said. I probably should have been killed doing what I was doing. I could see the bullets strike the ground in front of me and behind me, and I could hear them fly past my head And then the Victoria Cross came along and changed everything; how could it not? 04.01.2022 #OTD - ‘Rising Sun’ Badge Approved On the 7th of February 1902, the first pattern of what we now call the ‘Rising Sun’ badge was approved for Australian soldier...s to wear serving in the Second Boer War. Although its origins remain unclear, the most widely accepted version of the origin of the badge is that which attributes the selection of its design to a British officer, Major General Sir Edward Hutton, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding, Australian Military Forces. The design was subsequently first worn by the Australian Commonwealth Horse. In April 1902 the first revision was made, with a scroll with the words ‘Commonwealth Horse’ added and the word ‘Australia’ changed to ‘Australian’. This was again altered in 1904 with the scroll being amended to ‘Australian Commonwealth Military Forces’. This badge would be worn throughout both World Wars with minor variations, including a special version for the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902 and special badges for the Commonwealth Horse and Australian Instructional Corps. The pattern would remain the same until 1949, when corps and regimental badges were reintroduced into the Army and the inscription on the scroll was changed to ‘Australian Military Forces’. In 1954 the Imperial State Crown was replaced by St Edwards Crown. It was changed again in 1969 with the introduction of the Federation Star above a heraldic wreath and the inscription was once again changed to read ‘Australia’. However, this design was never fully issued. The seventh and final design used today was produced in 1991 and had ‘The Australian Army’ on the scroll and the removal of the Federation Star and heraldic wreath. The Rising Sun Badge was originally called the General Service Badge, but it is now officially labelled the Australian Army Badge. It will, however, always be referred to as the Rising Sun Badge. Let us know if you have had the privilege and honour to wear this emblem! ------------------------------------------------------------- If you spot an error, please send me a message.
