20.01.2022 LITTLE CRUSHERS READY TO TACKLE! Earlier this season close to 30 of our under 7s (and a number of 8s and 9s who needed a bit more confidence) were put through the NRLs new TackleReady Program by our very own Prop Forward and NRL Development Officer James Geurtjens. TackleReady is a 6 session program run by the NRL Development team where all under 7s throughout Queensland are put through the ins and outs of landing safely, running into a tackle, physical literacy as well... as learning how to tackle safely. Not only is this extremely positive and beneficial for our little ones, it also gives coaches (who at this age are generally mums and dads new to the coaching scene) plenty of education and confidence moving into the under 8s next season. James Geurtjens quoted: It was an absolute pleasure running the program out at my local club this year. All the coaches involved really bought in. They were all really fun, engaging and inclusive which makes it a really positive learning environment for all the little ones. Hopefully all the boys and girls got plenty out of it and it gives both the kids and their parents the confidence to keep enjoying grass roots football for many more years to come. This Sunday gone the under 7s played in their first Tackle Gala Day which from what we are hearing was a huge success! Also great to see some of our Crushers family making the paper with young Carter putting a solid shot on dad and Crushers President Justin Hodges. Also one of our senior Wags Alex Gusterson in all her Greens (better half of our hard hitting back rower Nathan Cornick) helping run the event. Its always great to see Rugby League on the up,we hope all our little ones had an absolute ball and all come back around for season 2021! Up the Crushers!

20.01.2022 The Crushers are still looking for a number of experienced players in key positions. For more information please contact Cheryl Smith-Turner via: 0409 896 424

18.01.2022 TEAM LIST ROUND 7 This week the boys take on a strong Beerwah Bulldogs outfit. With a number of injuries and certain players out with personal commitments, the side has had some adjustments this week, which will give a few of the boys a chance to impress and cement their spot in the side moving forward. Unfortunately 2 of our big names are not available this week. Sam Thaiday having some pre booked personal commitments and Justin Hodges unfortunately injuring his hamstring i...n the early stages of last weeks fixture. Kick off is 5:00pm Saturday Venue: Albany Creek Crushers Juniors UP THE CRUSHERS!

18.01.2022 BACK TO BACK WINS The mighty Crushers took on a formidable Brighton Roosters outfit last night and looked to make it two from two after a close win last weekend against the Brisbane Natives. The boys started well from the get go with some big carries up the middle. Prop James Geurtjens busted the line early but unfortunately couldnt finish off as Brighton slapped down his attempted offload with only the fullback to beat. This was the story of the half with the Crushers squan...dering trys on multiple occasions having had a number of opportunities early on. Things picked up and finally big middle Issac Tivalu went over off a Hodges no look short ball. Soon after Lennon made a mockery of some lazy defenders dropping Geurtjens off who busted the line before getting away an offload to Logan Finn who proved far too quick for the full back going over in the left corner. Big center Brandon Ewing was next to score, busting trough the defense off a slick backline move started by some great hands from Lennon and Hodges. Before the break Brighton went over late in the half off a well placed kick, the boys went in 12-6 up at halftime. Our boys once again started well showing some strong D and managing to turn over possession in the oppositions half. Unfortunately on tackle 4 Brightons winger scooped up a shanked attacking kick that saw him run the length. At 12 a piece we had a real ball game on our hands. Veteran halfs Lennon and Hodges then took back control of the game and after some back and forth Geurtjens busted the line again, this time pinning the ears back and making a speed bump out of the Roosters fullback to score under the posts. From then on it was all Crushers with Robbie ODonnel running a great line to go over untouched, Tom Krosch bumped off multiple defenders to go in on an edge, Logan Finn was too hard to stop from dummy half and slid in for his 4th try since debuting last week and finally young James Wood went in for a try in his 101st game for the Albany Creek Crushers. To chuck a dampener on the half Brighton tried an unconventional chip kick on the first tackle which paid dividends as they regathered and went over untouched seconds before the full time hooter. Full time: Crushers 40 Brighton 18 Great effort lads, although being without some very experienced players in Thaiday,Roberts and Renouf. You really showed how far youve come and came away with a really impressive win! Next week the boys head to Wynnum to take on the Seagulls away. With the lads only just beating the Southerners in the dying stages back in round 1. It will be interesting to compare and see how much our young side has improved over the 10 week season. Well done team! Rest up! And enjoy your Sunday

16.01.2022 Match report: A GAME OF TWO HALVES The Crushers ran out a young squad this week with the exception of a few veterans up the middle including NRL legend Sam Thaiday. Off the get go Thaiday, Geurtjens and Ewing dominated the middle running riot with some powerful carries. Wasnt long before James Wood was over in the corner with Waterfords defense in disarray. ... Matt Lennons kicking game along with some aggressive defense from Tailford and ODonnell, gave the home side a good percentage of possession in the first quarter. Young half Sam Armstrong was proving quite the handful crashing over, splitting the defense up with some great feet at the line. Waterford then broke the momentum by picking up an intercept and running the length to score. It wasnt long before the Demons took advantage of a poor defensive read from the left edge and were in again making it 12-10 to the Crushers at the break. Unfortunately for us it was a game of two halves. As the young Crushers side made changes and began to fatigue, Waterfords experience showed, seeing the Demons take control by dominating an inexperienced left edge running rampant with a number of unanswered tries. Although proving a tough day at the office, there were some big improvements made from last week. Having big Sam out there definitely gave our young side plenty of confidence and it showed in the first half. With plenty of positives to take away from the loss, the boys are keen to get stuck in at training Monday night and build off the back of it. Great to see so many locals down supporting their local grass roots Rugby League club. Also a big thank you to Sam Thaiday for answering the call to help out our young side, giving fans plenty of time after the game and even getting stuck in helping our volunteers by packing up tables and bollards after the game. Thanks to everyone that came along and we hope to see you again at our next home fixture on Saturday 22nd of August as we take on the Bulimba Bulldogs.

15.01.2022 Recovery session tonight, 4 games to go!

09.01.2022 CRUSHERS VS BEERWAH 5:00pm South Pine Sporting Complex See you there!

08.01.2022 CRUSHERS GRIND OUT THE WIN! The boys have turned it around this week and battled out a gutsy win away against a never say die Brisbane Natives outfit. After a shakey start from our boys, Logan Finn caught markers napping and barged over for his first try on debut. Not long after a big barn storming Brandon Ewing went over off a Micky Roberts short ball. Then soon after Matty Lennon split the defense giving the boys the lead at the break. ... The second half was very back and forth but eventually Logan Finn was over again proving very dangerous out of 9 all game. Eventually the scores were all tied up with only 5 minutes to go and it was anyones game. After some punishing defense the boys managed to force an error and not long before the hooter Captain Courageous Brendon Tailford busted over the line and the mighty Crushers took home the chocolates! Great effort lads! We are all really proud on how well your improving week to week! Unfortunately the win came at a cost and our two star players Sam Thaiday and Micky Roberts sustained hamstring injuries and may miss the final 2 games. Next week we are home against Brighton. Be sure to get down, support the club and cheer on the boys as we try to make it 2 in a row!

08.01.2022 CRUSHERS vs BRIGHTON ROOSTERS Squad announcement. With a number of injuries coming about over last weekends win over Brisbane Natives, our mighty Crushers have made a number of changes this week yet are still looking reasonably strong for our home fixture against Brighton. ... We see Michael Roberts, Matthew Tailford and Sam Thaiday sit out this week with Hamstring injuries. However we welcome back Issac Tivalu, Paul Magele and also Justin Hodges. Hodgo unfortunately fell to a hamstring injury very early on in his debut against Brothers and has been chomping at the bits to get back out there ever since. Why not come and support the boys as they attempt to make it two from two tomorrow evening aswell as support a Kangaroo, Origin and Broncos Legend play his first full game of Rugby League since that historic golden point Grand Final loss in 2015. When: This Saturday Venue: South Pine Sporting Complex Kick off: 6:00pm Lets get behind local Rugby League! Up the Crushers!

Also we would like to welcome young Logan Finn into the side this afternoon, Logan joins us from the East Tigers and has been looking very handy at training. 03.01.2022 MATCH REPORT: Crushers improve but dont bring home the 2 points. The boys headed over the Gateway this Saturday, deep into the Eastern suburbs to take a strong Redlands outfit. Redlands hosted one of their biggest crowds in a long time which generated a great atmosphere around the grounds. Just shows what it means to the local Division One competition having the likes of Sam Thaiday and Justin Hodges involved at the grass roots level. ... Early on it was very back and forth, our big forwards were quite dominant again early on with the Crushers winning a lot of the contact and spending plenty of time in the Redlands quarter. Unfortunately after a number of poor defensive reads, the boys had back to back tries scored against them mid way through the first half. After some strong carries up middle, young Sam Armstrong crashed over after a very slick backline move which got the boys back in the game. Half time 14-6 to the Redlands. Although starting very strong and aggressive, Redlands picked up a loose ball from a Crushers shift play which resulted in a full length try which put our boys on the back foot early. To their credit our young side dug deep and played some really good football at times showing plenty of improvement from last week. Final Score 30-18 to the Redlands New recruit Dan Jones played very well on debut in the halves going over twice. Also big Sam Hadzijusufovic had a strong game in the back row, showing plenty of aggression with plenty of big carrys and some real mongrel in defense. Unfortunately the boys picked up a few injuries with club pin up boy Ben Demmel suffering a grade 2 hamstring tear, Matthew Tailford also copping a similar injury and a big shout out has to go to Lefogalelei Autagavaia who went off with a potential broken ankle. We hope your okay and recover well big guy! Next Saturday we are home against the Bulimba Bulldogs. Both sides are quite evenly matched so we should be in for a cracka! Please keep an eye out for more details over the coming days! And we hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend Crushers team

03.01.2022 JUSTIN HODGES DUSTS OFF THE BOOTS! After putting his hand up to give back to his local footy club and volunteer as President of the Albany Creek Juniors. Hodgo was quick to lend a hand and share his knowledge with our young seniors side, volunteering to help train and eventually run water as the teams First Aid Officer. In their debut season, the Crushers open 1s found it difficult early on getting numbers down to training and engaging everyone to buy into what we are trying... to build off the back of season 2020. With the Queensland Legend on board things quickly started to look up and with good friend and ex team mate Sam Thaiday agreeing to come down and lend a hand. Things have gone from strength to strength over the last few weeks with over 25 at training each week generating a real buzz around the grounds. With our Crushers currently ranking towards the bottom end of the table, we were lacking a fair bit of experience out wide and with the injection of Michael Roberts things have really started improving. After months on end of hassling from the lads, Hodgo has finally given in to his love of the game, with the 254 game NRL veteran agreeing to jump in the halves this weekend against the competitions most fierce outfits, Brisbane Brothers. Stocking one of our strongest sides to date, we cant wait to see Hodgo and the boys back in action tomorrow afternoon. The game kicks off at 3:00pm, away at Gibson Park. Both sides will be competing for the Down Syndrome Cup with the event raising much needed funds for DSA Queensland. If your in the area and keen to come have a watch, remember there will be limited numbers and strict Covid protocols, so keep your distance, sign in, wash your hands at the stations provided and if your not feeling well, stay at home. UP THE CRUSHERS!!
