23.01.2022 At about this time next week we'll (most of us) be nicely stiff and sore and licking our first game wounds. I'd love to give you the comprehensive fixtures but they aren't fully published yet. Nevertheless, lets get excited, cricket is here!
22.01.2022 Round 1 is over and unlike a lot of previous years the weather let us have a full quota of games. In A Grade Collingwood Park dominated Denmark at McLean Park. Winning the toss and batting Denmark were on the back foot early at 3 for 32 until a 76 run partnership between Peter Ross (28) and Matt Burton (41) steadied the ship. Both Ross and Burton fell with the score on 108 and a steady flow of wickets continued until a 40 run last wicket partnership between Jay Frantom (37 no...t out) and Matthew Ellalong (16) gave them something to bowl at. Unfortunately for Denmark they couldn't defend the target as Collingwood Park ran down the total with just the solitary wicket lost in the 31st over. As more details from Collingwood Park are uploaded to MyCricket you will find them here: http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/match.aspx
18.01.2022 The second game in A Grade took us to Proctor Oval in Manypeaks as the hosts took on North County. Manypeaks won the toss and batted and despite being 2 for 9 early, the arrival at the crease of Daniel Vernon to partner Bryce Durack pushed the score towards 200 as the pair put on 180 for the 3rd wicket before Vernon was eventually dismissed for 107. 24 from Declan McNamara with Durack's 70 pushed the total to a stiff 8 for 252 from their 45 overs. County veteran Harley Coyne ...took 4 for 51 from his 9 overs while Glen Batersby took 2 for 46 from 7. In reply North County god off to a good start with 51 for the first wicket between Craig Tonkin and Luke Adams giving them a platform to work from. Despite the loss of Tonkin for 28 Adams and Brendon Dovey were able to push the score to 1 for 87. From there a steady stream of wickets hampered their run chase and never restarted. Adams was eventually out for 33, Dovey made 14, Gary McGlade 16 and Glen Batersby 17 down the order. Liam McDonald took the bowling honors for the hosts with 4 for 18 from 9 overs, while opener Matt Hope took 3 for 37 from his 9. http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/match.aspx Next week Manypeaks will travel to Denmark while North County will play Railways at Tigerland
17.01.2022 For the record, as I was leaving the ground to beat the traffic rush Railways were close to a comfortable victory with North County all out for 105 (give or take). I THINK Manypeaks won B's and the C's as last year was the final running game. If anyone can confirm these last two results that would be rad. I do apologise for not getting more specific results in the other Grand Finals. This was my plan but I kind of got a bit social at the main ground.
15.01.2022 Okay so there was intermittent and annoying rain during round 2 this past weekend so we have varying results of the scheduled matches. Denmark were to host Manypeaks but unfortunately this one was called off. In the remaining two games that both went ahead first of all Collingwood Park hosting Royals and we've seen Royals off to a great for start in season 2015-16 with consecutive wins.... Collingwood Park won the toss and batted and were immediately on the back foot losing Tim Pyle closely followed by Jesse Spaanderman both without scoring with the tally on just 5. Brendan Grogan the successful bowler on both occasions. There was a rearguard action to follow between Nathan Dovey and Harrison Noakes who put on 65 for the 3rd wicket before Royals bowlers again got on top of the batsmen. The partnership was broken when Noakes was dismissed for 27 by Jack Hastie. From there the procession set in. In keeping with the weather on the day there was a large group of ducks in the Collingwood Park changerooms, 7 in all as the innings was limited to 107 from just 30 overs. Dovey would be the top scorer for the home team with 36 with only one other player in double figures, Dave Hulcup unbeaten on 10. For the visitors Grogan got the figures with 3 for 17 from 7, Jack Hastie took 3 for 23 from 4, Harry Broomhall 2 for 17 from 8 including the key wicket of Dovey and Jack Batchelor 2 for 18 from 8. In reply despite the early loss of Liam Andrew, Royals were relatively untroubled in the chase passing the total in the 23rd over with 6 wickets in hand. James Madden top scored for the visitors with 32, last weeks hero Harry Broomhall made 23, and Jack Batchelor was unbeaten at the end with 21. Ben Grey got the best figures for The Park with 3 for 27 from 9 overs. http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/match.aspx Royals take on North County next week in a bid to extend their unbeaten start to the season again at Collingwood Park while Collingwood Park travel to Manypeaks.
15.01.2022 The final game of round 2 in A Grade was another lop sided affair between recent finals rivals Railways and North County at Tigerland. North County won the toss and batted but were extremely guilty of not capitalising on starts with all top 5 of their batsmen making double figures but only one making more than 20. Openers Craig Tonkin and Brendon Dovey put on exactly 50 for the first wicket before Dovey was removed by Coen Marwick for 19. North County were never able to build... any positive momentum there after against a frugal Tigers attack and would finish at 6 for 123 from their 45 maximum overs. Tonkin finished with 43 for the visitors while Brendan Crudeli took 2 for 14 from 5 overs and Ryan Tindale took 2 for 39 from 9. The total was never going to be enough and Railways made short work of the day running the score down in the 18th over without losing a wicket. Brendan Crudeli finished 63 not out and fellow opener Matt Wolfe made 59 not out. http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/match.aspx Railways travel to Denmark next week while North County face the undefeated Royals at Collingwood Park.
15.01.2022 The final game of round one in A Grade seen cross street rivals Railways and Royals play off at Tigerland. Railways won the toss and batted but were in early trouble with Brendan Crudeli being dismissed early followed by new skipper Zane Marwick without troubling the scorers. Railways top order mis fired and it was left to Nathan Crudeli and Liam Want to steady the ship taking the Tigers from 5 for 40 to 142. Crudeli was eventually dismissed for 57 while Want made 44 in their... 102 run stand. The loss of these two put their innings on the back foot once again but they were still able to post a respectable 199 albeit with 3 overs to spare. Brendan Grogan got the figured for the visitors with 3 for 21 from 7. Youngster Jack Batchelor took 2 for 27 from 9 and veteran Steve Denton 2 for 57 from 9. Royals got off to a solid start through skipper Rob Gibson and Cohen Chapman who put on 49 for the first wicket. The loss of Gibson for 35 brought Harry Broomhall to the crease. Royals would lose a steady flow of wickets throughout their innings from here on but Broomhall remained the constant and finished 97 not out as Royals took the honors passing the total in the 44th over 8 wickets down. For the hosts Tim Edmunds took 2 for 34 from 8 overs while veteran Ryan TIndale took 2 for 23 from 4. http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/match.aspx Next week Railways are again at home, this time to North County while Royals go to Collingwood Park.
