25.01.2022 The drive down to Albany is so pretty when the canola is flowering
24.01.2022 Is this reality or is this a dream!? Well, we can confirm that it's real! Climb to the top of the Granite Skywalk in Porongurup National Park and you'll experie...nce the sweeping vistas of the incredible Great Southern landscape here. #WanderOutYonder and tackle the steep 2km hike, involving a final 200metre scramble over the rocks to reach the final viewing platform, which wraps around the enormous peak of Castle Rock. 23.01.2022 You’re captivated by the sounds and smells of the Aussie bush and challenged by the final scrabble over impossibly arranged granite boulders near the peak but o...nce you reach the Granite Skywalk... oh my. It’s like the earth has been laid out just for you, just this one time. It’s kind of hard to start that descent again, but if you’ve been clever enough to pack a picnic to enjoy, there will be a treat awaiting you at the bottom of the trail. We love Castle Rock - it’s nice and handy to Castle Rock Estate and to Abbey Creek Wines. Maybe step it up a notch with an eco tour, or go a scenic flight? Or just wander the ancient Porongurup Range at your leisure, with a comfortable bed and a cosy hearth awaiting when your day is done. 22.01.2022 We may not be able to see dinosaurs , but a trip to the Stirling Ranges certainly feels prehistoric. Did you know that the Stirling Range National Park is an ...ancient land form, with its bedrock dating back roughly 25002900 million years? With dramatic mountainous views and wild, jagged peaks, it's a truly spectacular spot to visit. Hike one of the many trails here, including the highest peak in southern Western Australia, Bluff Knoll. In this biodiversity hotspot, there are over 1500 species of plants; 87 of which are found nowhere else in the world - and spring brings a carpet of wildflowers to the landscape, making it a stunning time to #WanderOutYonder. 14.01.2022 TURTLE TIME! Turtle hatchling season is here and it's time to keep an eye out for the little critters in known hotspots. Every year from August to October,... long-necked turtle hatchlings face a risky journey across Golf Links Road to make it to Lake Seppings. 12.01.2022 An amazing experience with two humpbacks at Goode Beach with Albany Whale Tours this morning. Normally the humpbacks are very active, but these two just cruised..., enjoying the gorgeous weather and teasing us all. No breaches, but the occasional tail, a bit of a roll and a wave, and coming up close to the boat as well. Seeing them that close under the water was awesome. #albanyinthistogether #theamazingsouthcoast #holidayherethisyear #experienceextraordinary #justanotherdayinwa See more

07.01.2022 Our cruise out across the Sound to Breaksea was just a warmup for what was to come once we rounded the island. Stopping on the way to say hello to a mother, cal...f and escort/midwife trio, we kept tracking to the seal colony to spy the sleepy New Zealand fur seals lounging on the rock face. Things ramped up out past Breaksea and we were spoilt for choice with whales in every direction. The wind didn't stop us heading out and it certainly didn't stop the humpbacks putting on a show. A mother teaching her calf to breach, lots of energetic tail slaps usual in courting males, cartwheeling birds, close passes with a side of rainblows, breaching in all directions from the horizon to just off the boat. It's fair to say the humpbacks were going absolutely ballistic. Too many breaches to count, it seemed they were spending just as much time in the air as they were in the water. Just when we thought they'd exhausted themselves for the day and we'd started steaming home, they would put on another display, gladly delaying our return to the harbour more than once. We're not sure what was in the water today, but we definitely weren't complaining. Heading home, many flippers were thrown in the air given us an insight into the meaning behind their scientific name Megaptera novaeangliae which translates to "big-winged New Englander." Here's hoping they weren't waving a "goodbye" but rather a "see you tomorrow for the encore!". Text courtesy of Ella Ruland, photos courtesy of Stuart McPharlin (spot the baby blow!) See more
