22.01.2022 Pictured is Promise who has just had her first birthday... Her mumma Charity was one of just 11 Brumbies left at the NPWS depot yards at the end of the 201...9 trapping season... SABA had previously taken 9 Stallions and NPWS deemed that our transport truck could ONLY take 9 Brumbies maximum... When NPWS told me there were 11 Brumbies left at the depot at the end of trapping, I was horrified... ??? How could I possibly take 9 and leave 2 there??? (Not on my watch!!!) We got a quote for a truck that could transport the final 11... The fee went from $2800 for 9 horses - to $4500 for 11 horses in the bigger truck! $1700 extra for 2 more Brums... But I knew we had to save them all. We did a Facebook fundraiser, explaining the situation and raised the $4500 in ONE WEEKEND! TRUCK PAID! That tells me just how many people CARE about and LOVE the Brumbies. The following Tuesday, all 11 arrived in SA... they were a bit disheveled, but otherwise ok... The reason I tell you this is: I am 100% CERTAIN that if NPWS were to choose 9 out of the 11... Charity (Promises mumma) would have definitely been one of the two left behind. She was in such a terrible state... and yet look at her now! Despite her terrible condition, Charity put everything she had into her foal. She gave birth to the exquisite Promise all by herself, overnight. Promise is an absolute joy to behold. Her mumma is a true testament to the incredible resilience and magnificence of the Australian Brumby.

21.01.2022 Safety Tip Here's a handy road safety tip that is quick and easy to do. Even though your float may be white, that makes very little difference to how easily it ...is seen at night. You can make your float highly visible with five metres of self-adhesive reflective tape from a hardware store, like Pam Brookman did in this photo she has shared with us. Pam rode with Meningie Pony Club in the early 1960s where she got her D and C Certificate. She says that in those days, nobody even thought of reflective stuff on floats. In fact, most ponies came in the farm trucks if they weren't ridden to the grounds, and every Pony Club venue had to have an unloading ramp. Don't just think it is a good idea, why not get out and brighten up your float for night travel or grab some extra tape and make it an activity at your club or centre. Thanks Pam! #horsesafety #roadsafety #safeontheroad

05.01.2022 http:// Friday Fact - Basic in-hand responses // Even before you get on the horse there are a couple of basic things in hand that you need to establish that will mak...e your life easier and the horse much calmer. It is important that you can give 'stop' and 'go' signals in-hand from light aids. Everyone will say all horses can do that, it is just leading. It's not about leading, it is about being able to move backwards and forwards with just a light rein aid when you are standing still. Because when you are walking, the horse copies you and that is not necessarily being under the control of an aid. It is important that the horse understands these aids and is not just following, as then there is confusion when you tie the horse up and walk away and he can't follow. By doing that we are teaching them that humans are ambiguous animals that you can't really rely on. Teaching the horse to step back is important because the muscles for stepping back are the same muscles the horse uses in the chest for downward transitions. You are training the horse to have a good deceleration as well as acceleration. Finally, teaching them to park, where they stay still even if you move away is important. It will make a great difference to you training under saddle if you have established these important basics before you get on.
