24.01.2022 This morning, after 10 months, over 400 people returned to Albert Melbourne parkrun. With 80 events re-starting in Victoria today, parkrun has now re-commenced in all parts of Australia. The parkrun totals for today in Australia were incredible: 50,000 participants across over 350 events. The joy at being outside with friends in a park was clear on so many faces. Behind the scenes, we owe a huge amount of thanks to the staff of parkrun Australia, led by Renee and Tim, who ha...ve worked so hard to implement policies that have enabled parkrun to return in a COVID-safe way. We also owe a huge amount of thanks to the parkrun Global staff, based in the UK. Many of them are spending a significant amount of time on the systems and processes that help parkrun happen in Australia, while not being able to do parkrun themselves. Thank you everyone. The normal-speed clip of the finish area is at https://youtu.be/m88xrrmPCqw

24.01.2022 While we’re celebrating 9 years of parkrun at Albert Melbourne parkrun, one of our most enthusiastic proponents, a regular Run Director and a man who is seemingly a friend to everyone, John Andrew is today celebrating his birthday. Happy birthday John!

23.01.2022 Be sure to tune in for this. Tonight at 7.40pm on ABC and iView.

23.01.2022 This change to the rules about allowing driving to exercise puts a lap of the lake back within reach of many of our followers. The allowed hour for exercising includes the time driving and you still must stay within 5km of your home. The lake path does provide a large amount of space to stay distant from other people but please take care and be considerate. Masks are mandatory if youre walking but were increasingly seeing people around Melbourne running with masks on too. Do you have any tips on masks? How are you using your hour each day? Keep taking care .

22.01.2022 Here is a wrap of the (not)parkrun results for last week Do you have any stories or photos from your (not)parkruns? Please share them in the comments. Last week we had 65 people log 129 (not)parkruns, both of them are an all-time high! Well done.... Results from last week: https://www.parkrun.com.au/albertmelbo/results/notparkrun/ Last week we had 5 first time (not)parkrunners and 16 people recorded a (not)parkrun PB. Denis McCarthy raced to the fastest position again in a new (not)parkrun PB of 17:51. For the women, the two Rebeccas were very close (Rebecca Dutkowski at 22:39 and Rebecca Fowlds at 22:44) but both were blown away by junior (not)parkrunner Rosie Lyness who ran 19:09! Finally, as youve seen in our posts, a number of swans have now hatched cygnets at the lake so so please be sure to keep your dog on a lead. Thats the wrap for this week. As were sure you are all aware, stage 4 means many restrictions on our movement and exercise. You can only exercise with one other person, for no more than 1 hour each day and you must stay within a 5km radius of your home. Happily, the government has clarified that you CAN drive somewhere to exercise as long as you stay within your 5km at all times. Albert Park is a great place to exercise and there is a lot of space but please be courteous as it does still get busy at times. If you are outside you must wear a mask or face covering. If you are doing strenuous physical exercise you are not mandated to wear a face covering but you must carry one with you. Strenuous exercise includes activities like running or cycling but not walking. This is really tough but if logging a (not)parkrun helps you feel connected or accountable or just part of something bigger then keep logging them. Take care Melbourne people. What are (not)parkruns? In the absence of parkrun events (not)parkrun is an opportunity for parkrunners to submit a 5k walk, jog, or run, on a route of your choosing, on a day and time of your choice, wherever you are in the world and following appropriate guidelines for physical activity wherever youre based. You can record up to one activity per day, with your fastest time each week included in a weekly results table. For more information on (not)parkrun and how to get involved, please visit our FAQs: https://support.parkrun.com//360009843618--not-parkrun-FAQs Visit your profile and add a new (not)parkrun here: https://www.parkrun.com/profile/notparkrun

19.01.2022 Here is a wrap of the (not)parkrun results for last week (the week where John beat Bec). Do you have any stories or photos from your (not)parkruns? Please share them in the comments. 18.01.2022 9 sleeps to go! Join us this Saturday for our final episode of #notparkrun #bakeoff at 9am. We are making brownies as they’re a favourite of Joanne’s. We would love you to join us live to chat about returning to parkrun on 16/1. Joanne is really keen to be able to ‘chat’ with everyone who has tuned in over the past 38 weeks. We have been told this recipe is ‘fool proof’ - is it Joanne proof?... 17.01.2022 Did you know there are three ways to be part of parkrun; volunteer, participate or spectate? The same opportunities apply to #notparkrun #bakeoff. Our volunteers have been those helpful voices in the chat who actually know how to cook and have been a lifeline to Joanne and other participants. Our participants are those who have joined in the baking, bravely trying to follow Joanne’s lead.... Our spectators have tuned in for the comic relief and entertainment value. Be part of history and join us tomorrow for our final #notparkrun #bakeoff at 9am in any capacity. If you’re interested in volunteering at parkrun when we return please message or email us at [email protected] The roster is online here https://www.parkrun.com.au/albertmelbourne/futureroster/ We need a few more barcode scanners and a run reporter for the 16/1. We have lots of roles available for 23/1.

16.01.2022 This is a little bit indulgent but, ahead of our planned re-launch (next Saturday, the 16th!), one of our co-Event Directors (Scott) wants to take this opportunity to give a huge thanks and congratulations to our other co-Event Director (Joanne) for completing an astounding 39 weeks of (not)parkrun live bakeoffs. It was 44 weeks ago that we paused parkrun and Joanne has filled almost every Saturday morning since then with a live broadcast on our Facebook page. Some weeks doze...ns of people have joined in and commented, other weeks only a few. Joanne said she would keep going as long as people turned up and that continued every week. We know it didn’t replace the community connections that are made in person at parkrun but we did constantly receive feedback that some people enjoyed some regularity and some familiarity, particularly in our darkest times. So, I (Scott) want to say a huge thanks to Joanne for all the work that she put into the weekly shows. Joanne bought so much flour, butter, eggs, sugar and various other sweet and savory ingredients. I can attest that, while there were some very funny moments along the way, everything tasted great. If you never tuned in, all 39 videos are still on the Facebook page as well as recipes as photos. This is a behind the scenes shot of what Joanne set up (and cleaned up) every Saturday. Thank you so much Joanne. #thanksJoanne We are so excited to be planning our restart. Over the next 6 days we’ll be sharing a lot of important information about the small changes we’re introducing to make parkrun COVID-safe and compliant. Please read, like and share these posts, we want to spread the word as widely as possible. We can’t wait to see you at 8am on Saturday January 16th for the return of Albert Melbourne parkrun.

15.01.2022 #notoarkrun #loveparkrun Happy 9th Anniversary Albert Melbourne. Let’s eat Rainbow Cake!

14.01.2022 Heres something to brighten up your week from a man who looks an awful lot like one of our Event Directors....Dont forget you have until midnight Sunday to log any 5km run or walk that youve done this week as a (not)parkrun. Head to https://www.parkrun.com/signin/ to log your time.

14.01.2022 So Albert Melbourne people, it seems theres a competition on. Read on if youre even a little bit competitive and keen to represent our parkrun... (not)parkrun is a way for you to manually record a 5km run or walk on your parkrun profile. You can do the run/walk in any location (subject to restrictions) but results are recorded against your home parkrun. For the first 7 weeks of (not)parkrun the results were as expected. As the Australian parkrun with the most number of reg...istered people our event had the most number of people recording (not)parkruns. That changed last week when our friends at Inverloch parkrun recorded one more participant than us, relegating us to second position. This week, Westerfolds parkrun has seemingly jumped on the bandwagon and set their sights on the top of the table. How will it pan out? Check out the live table here to see which event is in front. Theres a link at the bottom of that page to help you log your time. The week finishes midnight Sunday and you can log any activity from the past 7 days. If someone you know hasnt recorded an activity, tag them in the comments. Well do a full wrap of the results on Monday. Whatever the result, were thrilled that (not)parkrun is inspiring people to stay active. Keep safe people . https://www.parkrun.com.au/results/notparkrun/

14.01.2022 Have you logged your (not)parkrun this week? View the live results http://parkrun.me/icyb4

13.01.2022 Hi Melbourne people, if youre looking for some motivation to keep active then the annual "Streaky September" by the parkrun adventurers podcast could be for you. Its a simple concept: walk or run at least 2km every day in September. The podcast team and the people in the Streaky Septmeber Facebook group come up with all sorts of challenges to help you stay motivated. While the goal is to do all 30 days, its a very fun group so any sort of streak is welcomed.

Let us know. We are so grateful for everyone who has stayed connected to us throughout the year. We miss you. ... Our plan was to make a traditional pumpkin pie, but they take forever and we’re not convinced of the pay off! 09.01.2022 Here is a wrap of the (not)parkrun results for last week. Do you have any stories or photos from your (not)parkruns? Please share them in the comments. The healthy competition, or the competition to be healthy perhaps, saw Inverloch parkrun record a huge 86 participants to be #1 in Australia. This relegated us to third position in Australia with 61 participants ...Continue reading

09.01.2022 The (not)parkrun results for the past week are now in and the weekly wrap-up is below. Do you have any stories or photos from your (not)parkruns? Please share them in the comments. Last week saw 47 registered Albert Melbourne parkrunners record 81 (not)parkrun 5km run or walks. ... Results from last week: https://www.parkrun.com.au/albert-melb/results/notparkrun/ Last week there were 4 first time (not)parkrunners and 10 people recorded a (not)parkrun PB. Congratulations: William Clark, Debbie Collins, Stephanie Armstrong, Ian Clysdale, Christine Henderson, Pegah Maasoumi (whose lockdown reflection we shared this week), Adrian Shiel, Ziyi Zhang, Abigail Cant and Peter Woods. Joanne Watkins was our tail walker this week, thanks Joanne! At the other end of the field Denis McCarthy again logged the fastest time, 19:22. Sousanna Kim, on debut, was the fastest female. Peter Woods has now recorded 34 (not)parkruns - well done Peter! Thats the wrap for this week. As were sure you are all aware, restrictions on our movement and exercise have been tightened with the introduction of Stage 4. You can only exercise with one other person, for no more than 1 hour each day and you must stay within a 5km radius of your home. Were aware that this now makes Albert Park Lake inaccessible to many people. We hope you can find somewhere safe and close to home to exercise. 06.01.2022 Today is the 9th anniversary of the start of parkrun at Albert Park. It is therefore also the 9th anniversary of parkrun in Melbourne, in Victoria and indeed everywhere outside of Queensland. In normal times, we always have cake but this year is a little different. We are still embracing the rainbow as our theme. It is a symbol of hope, love, inclusion and a promise of better things to come in many cultures. This year it seems even more fitting as the rainbow appears after t...he storm. Normally we celebrate the achievements of the year. This year we want to you to send us messages sharing your milestones in 2020 - big and small, so that we can acknowledge your journey with our community. We also want you to embrace dressing up! Dress up on Saturday for your #notparkrun run or walk. Send us a selfie on Saturday when Scott and Joanne go live on Facebook together. Please join us on Facebook Live on Saturday to make a rainbow cake so that we can eat together, even while apart. We promise this is a delicious recipe.
