23.01.2022 Dear Parents and Caregivers, Thankyou to the many families who have understood the complex day all educational settings have faced. So many of our families and children continue to model kindness, gratitude and care. It makes such a difference to our day and does not go unnoticed. Someone asked me the other day about the essence of Alberton.well, the majority of our community showcase this daily with a warm smile, a kind greeting, a positive comment or a thankyou. 22.01.2022 Year 7 Camp Update Today the Yr 7's had another action packed day at Errappa Camp. We began the day with 'Operation Mayhem' an orienteering course designed for us to find clues that were hidden throughout the township of Iron Knob. We worked in teams to design a plan to gain the clues in a strategic way with the help of a GPS and Walkie Talkies.... We were guided through more outdoor 'team challenges' that tested our creative problem solving skills and how we work together as a year 7 team. This afternoon many of us overcame our fears with the 'Leap of Faith' where we climbed up to a small platform and jumped off to grab a trapeze before being lowered to the ground. We also climbed the very high rock walk and some made it to the top. With support and encouragement from our friends we all challenged ourselves and we were proud of what we were able to achieve with a positive mindset. We are all looking forward to movie night tonight, a good night sleep before making our way home tomorrow.

22.01.2022 Out beautiful historic New Street Building houses a treasure of history for our school and local community, an Honor Roll acknowledging Old Scholars and Teachers who served in WW1. This year on ANZAC Day we want to pay special tribute to Staff Nurse Laura Jane JENKINS, the only female to be recorded on the roll, and in a time once again whereby nurses are being recognised as our finest treasures. We are so grateful for brave nurses like Staff Nurse Laura Jane Jenkins and those following in her footsteps. Although significant efforts have not led us to find a photograph of Laura, ‘herstory’ is depicted on a sign in our ANZAC Garden if you would like to take a stroll today and remember. Lest We Forget

20.01.2022 Dear Families, Tomorrow we respectfully ask that you drop your child outside their classroom and then minimise your social contact with others by not mixing or staying at school (even though we understand that children won’t have social distancing necessarily). Thank you for your support and care for our Educators. Regards, Alberton Staff Team

20.01.2022 While acknowledging Harmony Day recently, our Diversity Ministry asked our children to bring in donations of toiletries, toilet rolls and canned and packet food to fill our Kindness Cupboard. And even in these crazy times where it’s easy to only think of ourselves, our generous families responded! The contents of the Kindness Cupboard is available to anyone in need. Please add when you can, and only take when you need. #bekind #harmonyday #community

17.01.2022 Today we celebrated Book Week in style by dressing up with the theme of ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. We are so grateful to families who supported their children to make fabulously creative costumes. It was amazing to see many children dressing up as characters from their own books. #weareauthors

16.01.2022 To Our Dear Alberton Family, Today our thoughtful and wise Children’s Parliament met together in an extraordinary meeting. We talked about how they are feeling at the moment and how our children at home in isolation might be feeling. We discussed what their needs are moving forward in this extraordinary time. They said they want to meet more, so their voice is heard, so they can have a real say, and so they can ‘have a constant understanding of what is going on’.... To summarise, their conversation was one of worry, concern and of seeking connection. The children came up with many creative ideas of ways to connect with their classmates in isolation. You will see us try to enact these next term. One idea was to make sure all our children at home in isolation have books to read. A suggestion was that anyone with a beautiful pre-loved book could drop it in a crate we will leave outside our school Front Office from tomorrow and until the end of next week. We will then have them delivered to the doorstep of children in isolation who need them. If you have a beautiful book you could donate, the children from our Children’s Parliament would be grateful. Thank you for you generosity and kindness. #bekind #connection #community #achilddidthis

15.01.2022 This week we celebrated our 2020 Aboriginal Reception and Year 7 Achievers. We are very proud of our Year 7 and Reception children for their leadership, confidence, achievements and growth throughout this year. We celebrated the afternoon with games and laughter with children followed by a presentation to each child with parents in the Nunga Room. We will be supporting our Year 7’s as they transition to the next stage of their learning journey, working together with the Aboriginal Education Teams at the high schools they are attending. Our Reception children will continue to build on their learning with us next year. Congratulations to our 2020 Reception and Year 7 Aboriginal Achiever Graduates!

Alberton Primary School Staff have had the amazing opportunity to work with Matt when he has visited from the USA over the past few years. He makes sense of how to best teach writing.

11.01.2022 You may have noticed that construction has started on our Meeting and Memorial Garden in front of our Aboriginal Education Room. So far irrigation has been installed, the pathway has been placed, sitting rocks for our Yarning Circle laid and vertical sleepers oiled and installed. Keep watching out for updates as this space continues to be transformed.

08.01.2022 This week in Positive Education we looked at Mindsets (thoughts and beliefs that govern your attitude, outlook, actions or responses and the way you think about yourself as a learner). We discussed key words and self-talk that may be heard along a continuum from a fixed to growth mindset. Students reflected on an aspect of their learning that they might have a fixed mindset about and created their own leaf for our tree display, which represented a shift towards a growth min...dset. Of course, changing and developing a growth mindset is an ongoing self-reflective process, which we will revisit throughout the year.

05.01.2022 Year 7 Camp Update! Our Year 7’s are at Errappa Camp and we had another fantastic day, beginning with team building skills and games in the big hall, including an 'egg drop challenge'. After a yummy pizza lunch we had our first experience on the 'high ropes' where we were all pushed out of our comfort zones but we challenged ourselves and succeeded with support from each other. Another highlight was the thrill of the flying fox which we get to have another ride on tomorrow. We are looking forward to tonight's activities which include toasting some marshmallows on the campfire.
