22.01.2022 As a follow on from our previous post about how important it is to keep on top of your child’s immunisations during lockdown, let's take a look at the Australian National Immunisation Program (NIP) Schedule for infants and children. All vaccines listed in the NIP Schedule are free if you have a Medicare card. In addition to the vaccines included in the NIP Schedule, it is also recommended that children are vaccinated for meningococcal B. ... Have a chat to one of our doctors at your next appointment at Albert Road General Practice about any other recommended additional childhood immunisations. Book an appointment today, online via HotDoc or call us on 03 9111 8959. We have the full range of childhood vaccines in stock.

21.01.2022 Day 3 of Women’s Health Week is all about our insides - more specifically, bladder, gut and bowel health. According to the CSIRO, 50% of Australians experience gut health problems, and 1 in 7 experience distressing gut health symptoms. Obesity and poor diet are big factors in gut problems. If you are looking to lose weight, don’t lose sight of the health of your gut. Weight loss and a healthy gut go hand in hand. A healthy gut properly digests your food properly, more effec...tively absorbs the nutrients from the food, and sends signals to your brain when you are full (stopping you from eating too much). Also, although unrelated to weight loss/gut health, but just as important... make sure you are doing regular pelvic floor exercises! 21.01.2022 Welcome to Day 4 of Women’s Health Week. Today is also R U OK? Day, so we’re looking at mental health and managing stress. These uncertain times have been tough on our mental health, and we are all struggling in some way or another. Try to have a conversation beyond just R U OK. If you think your friend has been quick to get angry or teary, or doesn’t seem to be enjoying the things that they usually would enjoy, they might be in need of some extra support. Encourage them... to talk to a trusted friend (you!) or their GP. If your friend is diagnosed with a mental health problem, such as depression or an anxiety disorder, their doctor may provide them with a mental healthcare plan. This will entitle you to Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions a year with a psychologist, social worker or occupational therapist. The Australian Government will also provide 10 additional Medicare subsidised psychological therapy sessions for people subjected to further restrictions in Melbourne and other areas impacted by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Talk to your doctor to see if a mental healthcare plan is right for you or your loved one. He is married with twins in their 20s, and has lived in Fitzroy for 35 years. He ...is a keen runner, having run 10 marathons, two ultra marathons, numerous 1/2 marathons, 10ks and others. Here he is after finishing the 56km Two Bays Trail Run in January this year. Phew!

20.01.2022 We remain open during stage four lockdown. These are very trying times and it is normal to feel upset and anxious. Be kind to yourself and to others, and book an appointment with one of our GPs to look after your mental and physical health. We have telehealth appointments available for patients who do not feel comfortable coming in to the clinic.

19.01.2022 Day 2 of Women’s Health Week is all about heart health! While being physically active is one of the best ways to reduce our risk of heart disease, remember to also look after your heart by maintaining a healthy diet! We have to admit, we’re partial to the croissants at one of the nearby cafes after a nice walk around Albert Park Lake. While the occasional post-workout croissant isn’t going to hurt, it’s when that croissant becomes a daily ritual that might lead to pro...blems! Try having a big drink of water, and opting for some yoghurt or a chia pudding with fruit instead. Opting for healthy food can lower your risk of developing health problems, and help manage health problems like heart disease and diabetes.

17.01.2022 Have you kept your child's immunisations up to date during the pandemic? According to recent data from the Royal Children's Hospital, a large number of parents/carers are foregoing or delaying getting their children's vaccines as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is critical that children follow their immunisation schedule in order to protect themselves and the community from infectious diseases. ... The risk of delayed or missed immunisations is that those children are likely to be more susceptible to a preventable disease, which can be life-threatening. It also affects herd immunity and potentially puts vulnerable populations (eg. grandparents) more at risk. Remember, you are allowed to leave your home to go to the GP or the council to receive an immunisation under current Stage 4 restrictions. At Albert Road General Practice, we have strict infection prevention and control procedures in place. Book an immunisation session online at www.albertroadgp.com.au or call us on 9111 8959 to arrange an appointment.
