25.01.2022 I got to see POKÉMON Detective Pikachu early thanks to the peeps at Roadshow. Short review: it’s good fun! Even if it gets stupid for a long while. Long review: Honestly I could not keep track of this plot if I tried? It’s a mess. And there’s so much misdirection, seemingly at random, that it’s hard to keep track of everyone’s motivation. ... But who cares about the plot of a movie that features a talking Pikachu? Nobody! Really the best part of the film is the world building. All the Pokémon look amazing, Ryan Reynolds sounds perfect as Pikachu, and Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton and excellent as protagonists Tim and Lucy. Also some very random big-name actors show up but that’s potential spoiler territory. Also if you’re thinking of taking kids: there some scenes that are definitely too scary for anyone under the age of like, 8? The kid next to me was watching half the film through their hands. 3/5, does this mean the Video Game Curse is lifted?

21.01.2022 I wrote about the mid-2000s indie scene for Music Junkee, and the 15 bands from that era are actually worth remembering.

18.01.2022 Firstly: hello! I haven’t been using this page as much as I want to, but hopefully will do a bit more with it this year. Secondly, please bid on or share my auction! All proceeds will be going to the ongoing bushfire relief efforts!

10.01.2022 In a slight-late edition of The Albertinho Letter, I touch on the rush to "return to normal" and how that intersects with unionism, tennis, and the Happiest Place On Earth. Have a read, and maybe even subscribe!

05.01.2022 I've started a new newsletter! In this week's issue, I talk about the merchandise of the latest season of The Boys, murderous cult leaders, and why a recent Netflix announcement gave me flashbacks to a pitiful moment in recent history. Subscribe! Yay!
